my wife is from the same region, does she seem to have such an influence too? she also has a Dobrudja Tatar great-grandparent (her mom even has a Muslim-sounding last name) but 1/8 is too little to influence the look I think. a lot of Cumans and Pechenegs melted into local population in Medieval times around year 1000 up to 13th century in southeast Romania (excluding Dobrudja, who has important Tatar presence to this day and has always had such Mongolic influence).

such Romanians are not uncommon at all but are not that common either. I don't find them exotic but neither typical, of course

She does, though the phenotype is different (no Med influence). I guess Romania's geography made it easy for various ethnic groups to pass through and settle there, which is why there is such a wide variety of phenotypes in your country.

I only visited your country once. I was in Timișoara, not too far from the Serbian border and although most people there are ethnic Romanians, I still saw a whole bunch of exotic-looking people that I had never seen before in the adjacent Serbian part of Banat. Romanians have such a diversity in appearance that on the street it is hard to guess who is a local and who is not (unless the clothing gives them away).

my dad thinks the same but I do not support local pride to such a point, I don't want that we live in 100 different countries. each region could say they are another nation, but I don't see the purpose. being native in both Ukrainian and Romanian I can guarantee Rusyn and Hutsul dialects are closer to Ukrainian than is Moldovan dialect to Romanian, haha. so there is basis for this in each region, but I don't support it, I am for transnational states. I would be very much in favour of a Balkanic Union or at least to cooperate much more in the region :) it's a pity we don't know and interact with our neighbours
