my wife is from the same region, does she seem to have such an influence too? she also has a Dobrudja Tatar great-grandparent (her mom even has a Muslim-sounding last name) but 1/8 is too little to influence the look I think. a lot of Cumans and Pechenegs melted into local population in Medieval times around year 1000 up to 13th century in southeast Romania (excluding Dobrudja, who has important Tatar presence to this day and has always had such Mongolic influence).
such Romanians are not uncommon at all but are not that common either. I don't find them exotic but neither typical, of course

She does, though the phenotype is different (no Med influence). I guess Romania's geography made it easy for various ethnic groups to pass through and settle there, which is why there is such a wide variety of phenotypes in your country.

+ there are still native populations of Ukrainians (Rusyns, Hutsuls and Hohols), Russians (Lipovans), Serbs, Bulgarians, Tatars, Germans.. not to mention the 2 million Hungarians, including Szeklers and Csangos. or the evergrowing Roma (Gypsy) population.
great chances to have people of very different background and appearance or interesting mixes

Turkish influence strong!!!!
Eskimo, what do you think about the fact that many Ruthenians refuse to be Ukrainian ? I heard from one Rusyn that They consider themself separate East Slavic ethnic group and have very old identity.
Sorry for off-topic, as for girls They look like Romanians with Tatar admixture to me.
Probably most "exotic" Romanians live in Dobrudja.

I only visited your country once. I was in Timișoara, not too far from the Serbian border and although most people there are ethnic Romanians, I still saw a whole bunch of exotic-looking people that I had never seen before in the adjacent Serbian part of Banat. Romanians have such a diversity in appearance that on the street it is hard to guess who is a local and who is not (unless the clothing gives them away).

my dad thinks the same but I do not support local pride to such a point, I don't want that we live in 100 different countries. each region could say they are another nation, but I don't see the purpose. being native in both Ukrainian and Romanian I can guarantee Rusyn and Hutsul dialects are closer to Ukrainian than is Moldovan dialect to Romanian, haha. so there is basis for this in each region, but I don't support it, I am for transnational states. I would be very much in favour of a Balkanic Union or at least to cooperate much more in the region :) it's a pity we don't know and interact with our neighbours

Wallachia and Moldova were a part of Cumania and Golden Horde:

Many turkic ethnic group lived in Dobroudja:

Szeklers (székelys) have significant asian DNA:
http://doktori.bibl.u-szeged.hu/1386/3/tezisfuzet_angol_CsanyiB.pdf
They are descedants of huns:
"It is now generally accepted that they are descendants of Hungarians (or of Magyarized Turkic peoples) transplanted to the eastern Carpathian Mountains to guard the frontier, their name meaning simply "frontier guards".[7] The Székelys have historically claimed descent from Attila's Huns[7] and believed they played a special role in shaping Hungary. Ancient legends recount that a contingent of Huns remained in Transylvania, later allying with the main Hungarian army that conquered the Carpathian Basin in the 9th century. The thirteenth-century chronicler Simon of Kéza also claimed that the Székely people descended from Huns who lived in mountainous lands prior to the Hungarian conquest.[14]"
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sz%C3%A9kelys
"There is a legend among the Székely people that claims that after the death of Attila, in a battle called the Battle of Krimhilda, 3000 Hun warriors managed to escape and settle in a place called "Csigle-mező" (today Transylvania) and they changed their name from Huns to Szekler (Székely). According to the Hungarian scholar Egyed, the Székelys speak the Hungarian language "without any trace of a Turkic substratum", indicating that they did not have a language shift during their history, and proposes that the Székelys were descended from privileged Hungarian groups.[133][134] They therefore could not have been related to the Huns, who most likely spoke an Oghur Turkic dialect."

That's why some romanians have turanid phenotypes.
