Northeastern European on this tends to be somewhat compressed, so the results are slightly funny looking (putting you near Croatia), but just this algorithm is not wonderful at distinguishing west and east within Europe, so occasionally, one gets funny results. If you are from far southern Europe, this works really well, and is also quite good for the Middle East, but most of Northern and Central Europe, this is blah (prefer Eurogenes).

I think the results are ok, Eurogenes puts northeast Romanians closest to Serbs/Croats or even Hungarians as well - this is because the Romanian standard is made after southern Romanians who are considerably more Mediterranean-leaning than north Romanians

I think there may be an issue with the location of the "Turk_Istanbul" observation as it is a bit isolated from the rest of Turkey, but you are placed between Kurd and Iranian (closer to Kurd). The Sarmatian and Scythian are also isolates as you will see.

If that is correct and others with Northwestern European ancestry are getting it in the right areas, that's really impressive, because there are mainly two dimensions that northwest Europeans fall on and the variation is not that big on the dimensions. I always think of Eurogenes being best for Northwestern European ancestry, but it falls apart for areas like South Italy, Greece, Albania.

I get closer distances with Puntdnal than with Eurogenes but it's a newer calc. Eurogenes is 5 years old
