Apulians are much closer to mainland Greeks than most Sicilians/Calabrians. They also do have higher Steppe.
I have all the kits so I can do them for whichever calculators people want.

IIRC there was a study on YDNA which found that Apulians have the highest frequencies of J2b and E-V13 in Southern Italy, which are most important today in Albanians. This further supports considerable ancestry from Messapian/Illyrian settlers in modern Apulians.

Apulia is one of the richest archaeological regions in Italy. It was first colonized by Mycenaean Greeks.[5]

And to an even greater extent the rest of South Italy was colonized by Phoenicians before Greeks, and by Jewish converters (especially calabria) during medieval times, which gives a much better explanation of why Apulia is less distant from Greece than other parts of South Italy.
Furthermore, campania which is equally close to Greek mainland as Apulia is, didn't have illyrian colonies, so I don't think that your explanation is accurate, let alone that there is nothing "Albanian looking" about apulian types

The better explanation is clear: Slavic blood in modern Greeks and Illyrian input in Apulians, I guess. Modern Greeks are very Slavic shifted if we go by the DNA posted in this forum, they can't be used as proxy to Minoans and Mycenaeans whom were more similar to Calabrians and Sicilians than to modern Greeks. Mainland Greeks are not only 1-15% Slavic. You guys are basically a Balkan population, the mixing with Slavs was significantly enough to change the genetic make-up of modern Greeks. All results I've seen from Mycenaeans were basically Siclian/Calabrian with more Sardinian and a bit less of the so callled ''near easterner'' (that is likely native to Calabria). Modern Greeks are not a genetically homogeneous entity, but an entity united by language and religion. So you shouldn’t use the ‘modern Greeks’ argument in a discussion about genetics, and lump all Greeks under this label.
South Italians are closer to the ancient Greeks than someone from Macedonia or an Anatolian Greek is, but other Greeks such as island Greeks are probably closer to the ancient Greeks than a south Italian.

It is indeed a matter of who is the most MENA, or better, who is the most Jewish shifted, since most of the MENA in south Italy and Crete is Jewish related.
And Cretans cluster more north than south Italians, so they are less MENA/Jewish shifted. I say that as someone who wouldn’t mind more Jewish influence in his people since am of Jewish ancestry myself.
But I saw this PCA below and made my conclusions. Cretans are less MENA shifted than most south Italians/Greek islanders.
At least according to this (most of south Italians are not shown because they are located more eastern on this plot):

I think there are two sets of islanders -- one that is closer to Apulians and Laconians (this would be Cyclades, some Cretans, and North Aegeans) and then one that is closer to the Calabrese (other Cretans, the Dodecanese, etc).
I wonder if Crete forms two clusters on a west vs east basis.

[1] "distance%=2.9279 / distance=0.029279"
Apulian (N=4)
Minoan_Lasithi (N=5) 71.70
Yamnaya (N=4) 26.15
Belorussian (N=3) 2.15
Corded_Ware_Germany (N=2) 0.00
They can be modeled as 70% Minoan and the rest steppe, in order words around 85% Mycenaean, the other 15% being additional steppe most likely from a Doric or Illyrian source.
I think there is a misconception when you say Steppe from the Doric source
I would say the Dorians themselves were just Greek people with some Steppe amdixture like these Apulians or South East Sicilian
That is 80% or so Mycanean/Minoan plus 15-20% Steppe or something

Yes his facial structure is Southern but not Semitic like but more Southern Greek"Cretan"
and he is fair enough to pass in a Country like Germany though many other Cretans and even Mainland Greeks wouldn't pass
There are two Greek members Freerostah and Sorcelow whom you claimed Serbian looking or something similar

Doesn't mean much. I score closer to Greeks in some calculators even with Albanian samples. And I am Albanian. You're also talking about a long bout of time that has passed from antiquity up until now, and all the mixing that would have occurred as a result of that.

Correct, my father was from Samos, and some family members from Syros earlier on. So purely Greek islander (from what we know anyway).
The man posted has lighter eyes and lighter complexion, aka the features aren't as "dark" as my dad's, but the nose and the rest look very similar. From this photo anyway, maybe not so much in other photos I am not sure.

The Minoans are very close to Cretans: https://www.nature.com/articles/ncomms2871
Myceaneans are basically Minoans with extra steppe, if I remember correctly.
The math is simple. Every time there is an invasion into Greece from the North, the mainland is impacted more substantially than Crete. So due to geographical forces, layers of migrations from the Balkans have put mainlands Greeks apart from Crete and some other islands, while common identity, languange and culture also binds them together.
Ancient DNA material from Classical or Hellenistic Greeks will be revealing. As there is significant evidence that there has been another invasion from the Balkans during the Iron Age. That must have brought more ancient Balkan DNA into Greece. That Balkan DNA may have also had more Steppe like admixture. Even if there is no significant Dorian invasion, internal mobility from the Balkans into Greece may have had an impact on the mainland. The Mycenaean material is from around 1900 BC to 1300 BC. That leaves 1000/1500 years of space for interntal mobility alone. My two cents is that Classical Greeks will be somewhat more Balkan-like than Mycenaean Greeks. Especially those from the mainland.
Also, I would also like to see Bronze Age DNA material from the proto-Greek homeland which is Thessaly and Epirus. I think those regions may have been different from the South of Greece during that time. Right now we have some DNA material from Southern Greeks during the Bronze Age, and we draw conclusions from that.

I do believe, however, that migration from the mainland to some of the islands has indeed brought many islands closer to mainland Greece since. A number of North Aegean islands, Dodecanese not from Kalymnos/Rhodes, western Cretans, and Cyclades plot somewhere between southern mainland Greece and the Sicilian cluster, which to me suggests north-shifting elements in smaller amount arrived indirectly on some islands.

During the Mycenaean Age the Greek ethnogenesis was only just starting to take shape. The Dorians did not spread through the mainland. Exotic languages may have been spoken in different localities of the Greek peninsula and some islands. Also, the Macedonians had not formed yet. They migrated to that area from the Pindus mountains only after the 7th century BC. They drove away peoples who were living there before them, perhaps absorbing some of them. Also, the Dorians drove away Ionians. Many of whom settled in Asia Minor starting the 8th century BC. There they must have absorbed other peoples. Some of whom were driven away by the Macedonians in the North of Greece and settled in Ionia as well. In the 7th and 6th century B.C. Paleao-Balkanic people were also imported to cities like Athens as well.
It is the accumulation of all those peoples which we call Ancient Greeks. Only after the 5th century B.C. was the whole Aegean region sollely Greek speaking. The genetic pool of those Ancient Greeks may have been somewhat different from the Mycenaeans. Not a lot different. After all, all these people were related to an extent. But they were probably not 100% identical to Mycenaeans. I think they slowly became more Balkan-like in the mainland and in nearby islands.
Now the question is why the South Italians are very similar to Mycenaens? There are a few reasons: Firstly, Southern Italians, like Cretans had EEF (Mycenaean/Minoan-like) admixture before the Greeks ever set foot there. So when the Greeks settled there, the Southern Italians absorbed them and deluded the Balkan ancestry which may have entered Greece until the classical era. After that, a degree of Slavs were absorbed by Greeks from the mainland. This pulled them further apart from South Italians (who themselves have absorbed Phoenicians and Arabs). To really estimate how much Slavic admixture absorbed by Greeks, we need genetic matterial from Greeks during the Early Roman era. My bet is that 70% of the genetic material of modern Greeks was already in place during the Bronze Age. Some 80-85% of the genetic material in Greece may have already been in place during the Hellenistic Age. While the remainder 15% to 20% was absorbed later.

The indigenous people of Sicily based on the one not so poor quality sample from 2500 AD, was similar to Minoans only with slightly higher "Sardinian" type admixture. So we can assume that sort of genetic profile was common throughout the eastern Mediterranean at that point in time.
There is a Greek GEDmatch result from 500 AD which comes up like someone who is 85% Sicilian, 15% Sardinian. No Slavic shift, just they are like a Sicilian with reduced Near Eastern and higher Sardinian/West Med/EEF.

We don't even know if that sample is Greek, and more importantly we don't know from which location it is. While it is only one specimen and, in fact, it deviates from Mycenaeans. Let's wait for a research which makes a comparitive analysis between Classical (or Hellenistic era) Greeks and Mycenaean Greeks. Also, for a change it would be nice if we have some samples from Thessaly/Epirus, the proto-Greek (as well as the Dorian/-Macedonian) homeland. Again, I don't think that the Southern Greek and Cretan population between 1900 and 1200 BC is indicative for all Classical/Hellenistic (500 BC to 200 BC) Greeks.
