Do Serbs really want to join the EU though?

I think they are something like the Gaul village of Asterix, the only country left in South Europe that still resists the EU and NATO domination.

Magnolia

All of them (except Turkey) but not now, the EU goes through hard times, it wouldn't be wise to accept new members.

The European Unity is required. Europeans tend to think too emotionally and tend to depreciate the treatment of China's and India's economic potential for Europe. It future this will be a big issue.

EU has to collapse, with terrible polticians like Verhofstadt, Schultz, Macron, Merkel and such.

But if not then bring in Serbia, Bosnia, Ukraine, Russia, etc. Will put some sense back into the Liberal/Socialist EU. Keep Turkey out.

Guy Verhofstadt, after ruining Belgium's economy (>100% of debt), he's set on doing the same in the European Parliament. He's rightly hated internationally.

No coincidence he's from Belgium neither lol. :p He thinks all of Europe would 'see the light' if they turned into some sort of macro-Belgians.

Their president does and they are official candidates to join the EU (after having applied for it). There are regular talks between Serbia and the EU regarding Serbia's accession to the EU, I even posted some news articles about it before. I don't think most Serb people want to join it (though there are Serbs that do), but I listed them since they were official candidates.

Serbians afaik are split on Eu, but typically against NATO.

In mean time US and Western European are trying to suck in all its neighbours and squeeze Serbia to abandon anything Russian.

I'm doubtful about Bosnians because they are prone to liking politicians like Erdogan. But they're of course not just ethnic Bosniaks, but also Croats and Serbs and they're quite a bit smaller a country than Turkey.

Russia and the EU are competing influences. They would never even think of joining the EU. They're a distinct entity and a global power in their own right. They have their own Eurasian Economic Union (though it isn't as cohesive as the EU).

Dandelion

Large countries like Russia and Turkey aren't joining anytime soon. Well Russia isn't even a candidate and is becoming increasingly authoritarian again. For instance that guy who got in the stadium during the FIFA world cup finals was made crippled just because he trolled Putin in front of his eyes. A trivial reason to render somebody disabled. But the EU is also becoming more authoritarian in its own way. :p We can still see Russian and the EU entering the same union one generation in the future.

Turkey is intellectually less developed and is muslim with a history of intolerance toward non-muslims. That makes it even a less likely candidate than even Russia, who isn't even trying to join. This is why I mention that country.

Can you imagine 80M Muslims with the right to settle wherever they want in the EU?

Or Turkey electing the majority of MPs in the European parliament?

Not even Turkey itself wants to join the EU anymore, they are much more interested in becoming the leaders of the Islamic World.

The European Unity is required. Europeans tend to think too emotionally and tend to depreciate the treatment of China's and India's economic potential for Europe. It future this will be a big issue.I agree. I remember supporting the division of the EU in the past but now I don't. Countries in Africa and Asia are going to have economic booms with much more influence the future. European countries need to stick together to be able to protect their interests. If they are on their own, they'll just be irrelevant pawns (either to America or Russia) with no voice whatsoever. Even now, they seem to be a bit too dependent on the US in some areas.

People here are too idealistic. I don't either like liberalism or support the EU's migration policy, but some European people need to swallow the bitter pill and face reality by accepting their countries are small and weak on their own (especially the small East European countries). Also, with more East European countries, liberalism in the EU can be controlled a bit.

Turkey is a World superpower they don't need for this joke called EU, neither for NATO or depending on anyone's especially not on the United States. Turkish army is one of the strongest of the world, if they want they could reach Vienna for 3 days. People underestimate the power of Turkey, everybody in the world wish to have Turkey as an ally.

Erdogan is a great leader, Turkey is a muslim country or at least a country built on muslim values, there is not islamic dictature there but just 99,9% ethnic turks who belongs to Islam or with muslim backgrounds who went out to defend their president against the kemalist zionists in July 2016. Religious or not religious... but turkish patriots with a brain.
