MyHeritage gives Nigerian. 23andme gives Senegambia/Guinea. Which should I trust?

Senegal to SIerra Leone.

Interesting is my mother on Myheritage got Sierra Leone, my grandmother got Nigerian. On 23andme, my grandmother got Senegambian (and a tiny bit of SE African Bantu) and my mother's has not updated yet but I cannot imagine it being other than Senegambian.

I made it by a logical thinking using "Brazilian slave statistics" x "DNA Results".

Since I know 125000 "Sudanese" arrived on Bahia at XIX Century and I couldn't hold 10% Nafri having only 1 Great Great Grandfather, seems I have Hausa/Fulani/Tuareg background. At most calculators I have too thin Nilotic or East African, therefore must be one of those groups.

Wouldn't your grandmother's results be the more accurate one since it's an older relative and percentages are in larger amounts?...but according to the history books Nigerian isn't as common as you say, so maybe perhaps Senegambian is the correct one, just my guess.

It's not between my mother and grandmother that it differs, but between tests. DNA Land also gave her "Lower Niger Valley" as opposed to their Senegambia category. So I have no idea.

I got the same.

Well, DNA Land gave me "Gujarati" because my South Asian. But I know I'm Pamiri/Burusho...

Maybe the percentage is a little small to assign with finer precision. Dr McDonald for example said that my father's 3.4% Euro/Jewish he scored on his test was too small to assign accurately..though with 23andme it seems to correctly assign our Euro as Iberian which is consistent with Philippine history, but I guess 23andme is simply better than all the other tests at assigning Iberian..not sure with African ancestry though. What's the highest percent of African your grandmother scores out of all the tests?

5.5% if not including GEDMatch... if including it, about 6%.

Hmm I don't know what else to say lol, maybe try uploading to LivingDNA through the FindMyPast partnership here: https://www.findmypast.co.uk/ancestry-dna-testing/ ..I believe they will be providing ethnicity estimates for a small fee by the end of the year or within the next month or two.

But what does her African show up as on the Gedmatch oracle? Could you post her results and also admixture breakdown

All that is clear is it seems to be West Africa, not Angola/Congo which is a common African region in the slave trade.

Gedmatch doesn't really seem to break down the African admixture part lol I guess African genetics are largely understudied to this day
