It's not just for the generic results I'm doing it, but because of the matches. As far as I know, but I could be wrong, MyHeritage is more popular than FTDNA and thus it has more tested people for you to compare to.

I'm not so sure about that. I would have to agree with Tschaikisten with it being commercial garbage. The ancient populations is only divided into four categories: Metal Age Invader, Farmer, Hunter-Gatherer and non-European, so it doesn't really say anything of any substance.

Give me ancient Thracian and Proto-Slavic DNA, and I can check what proportion of both groups are Serbs descended from.

So yeah, it is very useful.

The only problem is that so far we have no any good-quality samples of ancient Thracian DNA and ancient Proto-Slavic DNA.


Right now I can use Albanian DNA as a proxy to Thracian, and e.g. Belgorod as a proxy to Slavic.

But of course these will be just guesses, as long as we have no relevant ancient DNA samples.

The UK groups are very close to each other, even the Irish, and 1/16 French cannot make an impact, that was my point. You have no Austrian ancestry, they're just Central European which is between the East and the West, obviously.
