Which makes most sense?

Balkans imo

All 3 geographically. Be more clear with your question.

I'm assuming you mean genetically, given the thread which it's in. But then the option titles are still misleading.

Southern Europe (with Spain, France, Italy, Malta, etc)

I mean in general.

Culturally and genetically, the answer is a mixture of Southern Europe and Balkans (with regional variation). Geographically, all 3 would work. Phenotypically, all 3 regions overlap somewhat except the more Slavicized/Germanicized areas.

So it's up to interpretation. To me, OVERALL "Balkans" makes most sense.

Genetically mostly East Mediterranean and South European. Greece and Turkey could be clustering in same group.
Geographically Balkans.

No they wouldn’t. Greeks are not close to Turks genetically.

Yes, in overall.

Turkey is heterogeneous. Thracian Turks, Aegean Turks and Greeks really similar.

In the second plot "Greek 2" is Aegean islanders and even they do not plot near the Turks.

These type of questions are usually debatable.

Okay for me:

Southeast European
South European (like Spain/Portugal/Italy)
Greece by itself

We are Balkanian,South European and East Mediterranean, but at the same time there are many cultural differences between Greece and the rest of Balkans/South Europe/East Med countries.

Southern European.

Generally speaking, Southern Europe is their best fit if I had to place them in a category. Truthfully, they're unique and different from their neighbors.

70% with southwest and 30% with Balkans, talking about "Greek average"

Most of Greeks In other words are like this

However, there are Greeks extremely unrelated to Balkans and very close to South Europe, and to a lower extent vice versa

For example, both Albanians who live here and Balkan countries I have visited are unfamiliar to me, and Naples was almost like I didn't travel abroad, but I can't say this for all Greeks. For example darknesswin (according to himself) would cluster closer to Balkans

Most of these things are quite alien for Balkan norm (and even more for central European influenced countries mistakenly labeled as Balkan, like Romania or Croatia)

But if I post florina (where darknesswin who self-identified as Balkan lives) it won't look equally alien, even though today people there have more "southern" values and way of life (kavala, which is near florina is Mediterranean)

But @sikeliot, isn't there already another thread for the same issue?

From my personal experience it depends on which Greeks you are talking about

Southern European, but I also don't agree with France being included as Southern European.

If France is South Europe than "Balkans" is even more

If France is South Europe than "Balkans" is even moreNot really. Greece is 90% culturally, mentality to South Europe especially Italy. Only few areas are more Balkan

No East Med
Southern Europe segment:
Southern Europe: Aegean Islands culturally closer to Italy than Levant and genetically closer to Southern Italy/Sicily.
Southern Europe-Balkans: Southern Greek mainland (Peloponnese/Central) is culturally close to Italy. Southern Greek mainland is genetically close to Central Italy and/or Albania with the exception of Mani/Tsakonia.
Balkan Segment:
Balkans-Southern Europe: Thessaly intermediate between Balkans and Italy culturally but genetically Central Italy/Albania/Bulgaria.
Balkans-Southern Europe: Epirus intermediate (but closer to Albania) culturally but genetically Central-Tuscan-Albania
Balkans-Macedonia: Macedonia culturally closer to Balkans, genetically closer to Balkans than Italy.
Balkan-Thrace-culturally closer to Balkans, genetically closer to Balkans.
