BAKU - History is full of recordings of conflicts, while peace is considered poor reading. The European Union, since its inception, has contributed to a stalemate in Europe, which has largely kept the peace in the continent. In fact, the bloc was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2012 for contributing to the “advancement of peace and reconciliation, democracy and human rights in Europe.” But how did a continent that fought two world wars come to a truce known as the Long Peace?

It's not the EU, but the French/British nuclear umbrella that has brought peace to Europe.

And NATO. It's no small wonder that smaller countries like the Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, Switzerland and Sweden were always neutral and in the case of the fist three: traditionally looked overseas. Britain, too, always focused on what was going on outside Europe.

If there was not a nuclear dissuasion forces, Soviets would have blitzkrieged Western Europe, but Americans replaced the desicive role of France in the security of Europe with NATO bases everywhere since the eviction of De Gaulle in 1970, an eviction minutely orchestrated by them because De Gaulle was a true nationalist, he had his country's interest before anything, and turned against Yankees after 1945 because he saw the trap of "European integration" promoted by USA and financial powers of the City and Wall St.

Absolutely. For the Dutch, the politicians at the time had seen that their policy of neutrality had failed them so they needed a strong guarantor. In came the Americans. At the expense of them recognizing Indonesian independence and seizing the resources for themselves (increasing Dutch dependence on America).

The 'Muricans gently kicked out Euros from Africa and Oceania to monopolize natural resources and maritime transit, decolonization was just a big joke.
