So are Muslim Egyptians.

Copts are close to Arabian subset population anyways such as Yemenite Jews and Saudis, but they are slightly more Med shifted probably due to Greco-Roman ancestry. Muslim Egyptians are pretty much the same as the Copts, no difference in looks and culture, other than the religious elements. Egyptian Muslims at times are more European shifted especially Pontic steppe from the Mamlukes and Balkan elements, although for the most part they have been outbred. There have been Hungarian, Bosinan, Greek communities in Egypt, some of these Greeks were Muslim converts, and others were Christians. But yes Copts are not that different from their Muslim counterpart in general. This is not like Iraqi Arabs and Assyrians who differ significantly

Because Iraqi Arabs and Assyrians are actually different ethnic groups.

Yes, this in a way prove somewhat the idea of race is a social construct. Apparently since Christianity makes you more native or in some cases more "White" but that's not the truth. There is for the most part very little difference between Christians and Muslims in most of the Near East, outside of Iraq. Well there are claims that Iraqi Arabs are Arabized, but for the most part this only true in the far north, most of the Iraqi Arabs are from the Arabian peninsula with strong Iranic infusion in some regions, but in others very Arabian. Copts are basically very close to Arabian subset population, they only difference is they have a slightly more Med shift due to Greco-Roman elements.

In some ways, there is truth to that, but the answer is more complicated. Sometimes people may convert by mixing and interbreeding with darker (or lighter) ethnic groups. If Assyrians converted to Islam and mixed with the Muslim Arabs, I'm pretty sure we would look very different. To note, the Muslim conquest probably consisted of darker peoples as it was originated from the Arabian Peninsula. So that's why some Arab Levantine Muslims can be pretty swarthy compared to Assyrians, as they would have ancestry from that region.

But this can be a superficial way of looking at it, considering that Turks and Kurds (predominantly Islamic) barely look like Arabs. So only the Levantines (Jordanian, Syrian and Lebanese populations) mixed with Arabians, and not Kurds, Assyrians and Turks? I need StonyArabia's take on this.

This is especially true of the Mosul's Muslim Arab population, who seem to be mainly Assyrian converts to Islam that inevitably mixed with other populations. It is obvious that religion is one of the driving factors for genetic differences between populations especially in the Middle East. Christianity in this sense truly is magical.
