View Full Version : Do you consider Maltese, south Italians, and Sicilians to be "Western Europeans"?

They are considered geographically and socioculturally to be Western European, but in terms of their genetics, physical appearance, etc. I don't think it can be argued they are.

In my mind they are Eastern Mediterranean people who have been West-Europeanized for the last thousand years, but they aren't of Western European origin.

Well obviously they are Southern European, the question is if they can be called WESTERN European.

They don't fit as Western or Eastern, so I'm not sure what to say

Culturally they have a Western European history and European settlers and rulers. Linguistically a bit less.

The definition of Western that you are using doesn't make sense. By this definition Austria is 'Western' and the Czech Republic is 'Eastern', although those two countries are situated right next to each other in the middle of Europe (geographic Europe conventionally ends on the Western side of the Ural mountains in Russia).

no they arent western euros , theyre just mainland mediterreans in southernmost europe
