The Greek Foreign Ministry is to lodge a demarche to Albanian authorities over the fatal shooting of a 35-year-old ethnic Greek in a village in southern Albanian on Sunday.

The ministry is to lodge the complaint officially with the Albanian Ambassador, Dashnor Dervishi, who was summoned on Monday afternoon.

Meanwhile sources at the Greek Police (ELAS) said there was no evidence, nor witness accounts, linking the exchange of fire in Albanian on Sunday night to the raising of a Greek flag at a cemetery for Greek soldiers by 35-year-old Konstantinos Katsifas.

Greek Police are cooperating with their Albanian counterparts in the investigation into the exact circumstances surrounding Katsifas's death.

According to ELAS, Katsifas and other members of the Greek community in Vouliarates participated in putting up Greek flags to commemorate Greece's entry to WWII against Italy on Sunday without any problems being reported.

Some reports have indicated that Katsifas, dressed in army fatigues, fired a Kalashnikov assault rifle into the air and then at an Albanian police patrol car.

The car is said to have been hit twice while 17 bullet casings were found at the scene.

There followed a chase, special forces were dispatched, helicopters sent out, and Katsifas was killed in an exchange of fire.

Eight bullet casings were said to have been found next to Katsifas's body along with a bag of around 100 rounds of ammunition as well as a military-style knife and noose

If we were to shoot every Albanian who shot (or killed) an Greek police officer, then we should start by releasing the Greek prison guards who were convicted of the murder of the Albanian criminal who killed a Greek prison guard a few days before:

https://greece.greekreporter.com/files/prisons.jpg (https://greece.greekreporter.com/files/prisons.jpg)Greek coroners determined Friday that Ilia Kareli (https://greece.greekreporter.com/?s=ilia+kareli), the Albanian convict who killed a Greek prison guard, died of a heart attack after sustaining multiple injuries, including a fractured sternum caused by a baton, and possible torture.
Kareli, 42, was found unconscious in his cell in Nigrita and pronounced dead in hospital Thursday, having been transferred from Malandrinos for his own safety after fatally stabbing a prison guard Tuesday for refusing him leave to visit his dying mother.
Marks on the body indicate the blows that killed him may have been sustained prior to his transfer, while a burn on his palm “looks as if it was caused by contact with electric current,” coroner Minas Georgiadis said.
The coroner’s report also mentioned signs of beating on the soles of Kareli’s feet — a form of torture designed to cause painful swelling. He ruled out the possibility that the lifer died from pathological causes.
The Justice Ministry said it was investigating the death of Kareli, who had arrived in Nigrita with bruises Thursday, but “did not request medical examination.”
The Greek Federation of Prison Employees (https://greece.greekreporter.com/?s=Greek+Federation+of+Prison+Employees) said its members had no involvement in the death and expressed condolences to the family of the deceased.
The incident provoked Friday hunger strikes from foreign inmates at Malandrinos, Trikala, Patras and Domokos prisons. However, for the moment the situation is under control and the local prosecutors have been informed.

Kareli was serving a 20-year sentence for attempted murder, robbery and drugs.

If I was the Greek prime minister, I would immediately force the president to pardon these men, and I would take another look at the confiscation of the Greek properties by the Albanian authorities...

Regardless of how and why he was killed , the whole actions from Albania is sketchy, hilarious, childish and sad at the same time.

First, they rejected his family's lawsuit against the Albanian police (they should have accepted anyway, and have it rejected by the prosecutor, as any modern country would have done)
Then, they rejected a (foreign) medical examiner to examine the dead body, and after multiple requests, they let someone to visit him for a couple of minutes (!!!). In the meanwhile, he was all stitched up, cleaned, so even if they did actually leave him for more time (to actually examine), he could do nothing since any evidence is wiped now.
Yesterday, they requested from his father to make another application (have already made it) , for them to review it, so he can take the dead body and bury his son (!)
And the top of the cake is that they issued a case file for arms bearing and use, and actions against police, for ... a dead person (new legal system : Albania)

In that case we would have to summarily execute quite a lot of Albanians currently residing in Greek jails. Ironically, the most notorious Greek thief, Palaiokostas, has conducted multiple bank robberies and prison escapes without ever firing a shot by himself. He doesn't even speak loud when he explains his plains to his fellow robbers!!! In contrast, his fellow prisoner and notorious Albanian gangster Alket Rizai has committed quite a few murders...

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/special/2014/newsspec_8700/index.html

He's spent decades dodging the law. He's escaped from jail twice by helicopter. He's given millions to the poor. This is the story of how Greece’s most wanted man became a folk hero.

The robberies started again on a Wednesday.
A masked man drove a stolen van through the quiet streets of Aspra Spitia in central Greece, a clutter of white buildings with black, square windows, like a game of dominoes tumbling into the Gulf of Corinth.
Parking outside a branch of the National Bank, he forced his way inside carrying an AK-47 rifle. He ordered staff to open the ATM, and snatched 150,000 euros. Then he took 100,000 euros from the cash boxes, and in moments he was gone.
It was February 2010, and the Greek economy was in crisis caused, many believed, by greed and corruption in the banks. One man was making them pay.
In October, it is alleged he robbed two banks in the same day. In Eginio, near Thessaloniki, a robber smashed through the windows of the National Bank, then did the same at the Agricultural Bank just 100 yards down the street, escaping with 240,000 euros.

And because no-one was harmed - unusual in Greek robberies - local authorities drew a conclusion:

It is highly likely this is the activity of Vassilis Paleokostas.”

https://medium.com/@obtaineudaimonia/amazing-lives-series-2-vassilis-palaiokostas-b488f01d948

He’s known as the Greek Robin Hood and is currently a fugitive who has escaped twice from a high-security prison by helicopter. Despite being a criminal, he has achieved fame and popularity for giving most of his money to the poor and claiming not to have physically hurt a single person during his crimes.

While Rizai is always bitching about his "innocence":

https://www.vice.com/en_ca/article/j5kdpd/ive-broken-out-of-jail-by-helicopter-twice

VICE: What made you decide to break out of prison?
Rizai: I had nothing to do with the murders that I was accused of. I'm not saying I've never done anything wrong, but I had nothing to do with that particular crime. The only reason I was charged and sentenced to life was because the head of the homicide department wanted to settle an old score against me. It wasn't until after the Court of Appeals rejected my case that I decided to plan an escape.

Typical Albanian.

If I were the prime minister of Albania, I would ask the Greek president to pardon Palaiokostas so that I could hire him to be the chief of the Albanian police. He surely knows how to do his job without getting people hurt, something that the Albanian police cannot even comprehend as a possibility...

Do you think you will make a chance against Albanian men?

Yes, they are as much vulnerable to bullets as everybody else. The question is "why bother"? As long as they send us their prostitutes we are fine, and besides, we don't even have to fight them, we can easily bribe them, although we would face stiff competition from Turkey on that field...

Those videos are off-topic and old, don't see the point in posting them. To me it just seems as if you are trying to vent. Lol "selling own daughters for prostitutes" is that something else that Greece tells you? If you understood Albanian culture then you would see why that claim is ridiculous, sure there may be sick people who do it but that is the case for every other nation as well.

Obviously he had it planned all along, since you see him regularly in military uniform in his photos and wanted to end up shooting some Albanians. It's mind-boggling how a number of Greeks see past logic when it involves their own criminals. Shoot at the police - and you'll get blown up to smithereens.

Same thing would have happened in the west, police would have blown him up to shreds, they even did to that downs syndrome kid LARPing with a toy rifle in the middle of the night.

It's normal and 100% justified.
