(of the feathered variety - not what your dirty mind were thinking :D )
So, is anyone on here interested in birds or birdwatching? I just noticed yesterday the Swifts have returned from Africa.
So this can be a sort of pictures and discussion thread. Posted any birds you like.
Swifts:

Follow this link for video as I can't get it to embed (http://www.youtube.com/embed/w9pJIbQ2umo)
Unfortunately these (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Western_Capercaillie) are restricted to Scotland. Maybe they were native to England and Wales a few centuries ago but the forests are a lot smaller and more broad-leaf than they used to be (it requires coniferous forests) and the climate has warmed making most of Britain unsuitable for it.
In Scotland it is under threat and is one of the birds most likely to go extinct in Britain. But it is being supported by conservation groups so hopefully it survives and begins to thrive.
The mating call (http://www.youtube.com/embed/w9pJIbQ2umo) of cappercailes is quite funny to listen to.

Red Grouse:

http://www.wild-scotland.org.uk/cmsimages/Red%20grouse%20-%20wee_257.bmp
An endemic sub-species of the continental Willow Grouse (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Willow_Grouse), the Red Grouse (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Grouse) is only found in Western and Northern Parts of the British Isles, mainly in Scotland, Northern England and North Wales.
British game bird shooters have long tried to classify it as a separate species, but most people except it as a sub species of the European Willow Grouse that evolved in isolation now.
I foresee all of the female posters spamming this thread with "AWW HOW CUTE" remarks.

Oh Im huge fan of birds. Id like to surround myself with them as much as possible. My grandfather used to be mad canary breeder. There were like dozens of canaries living in his house. it was amazing.

Yes, we have a few in England too. They're beautiful animals, native to China and the Russian Far East.

Hahaha, very good.
The hill where my grandparents used to live is full of peasants now, because people have stopped working on their wine-yards and the place is mostly barren...

Yeah, I see them occasionally too. They're beautiful birds, even if they do act a bit dozy though sometimes. :D
