He says himself he was blonde as a kid and his sister even has blue eyes.

He actually is more 'European' in his results than many of the Sicilians I have results for. I have not yet seen a Calabrian though.

His facial structure is typical but his coloring is lighter than average.

Yeah but there are lighter people than him in South Italy...blue or green eyes are not rare here

I too think of Calabrians as very dark, but it might depend on the region. I usually associate lighter phenotypes with southeastern Sicily (your area), Apulia, and the inland part of Campania.
