Being of "Greek descent" doesn't mean he's pure Greek, he could be 25 percent Greek, 75 percent Armenian, but still be of Greek descent since he's partially Greek. He looks completely Armenian and his surname is Armenian, so at best he's half Greek through his mother.

He looks Kazach or perhaps Azeri. Here’s what the Armenian president looks like:

Well his surname is Armenian, but whatever he is he's obviously not Greek, he's probably got one Greek grandparent or something so is described as being "of Greek descent", it's like calling Obama of English descent.

Internet says that last name Sharmazanov may belong to Greeks-Urums.

The Urums, singular Urum (/ʊəˈruːm/, /ʊˈruːm/; Greek: Ουρούμ, Urúm; Turkish and Crimean Tatar: Urum, IPA: [uˈɾum]) are several groups of Turkic-speaking Greeks in the Crimea and Georgia.

The term Urum is derived from the Arabic word روم (rūm), meaning Roman and subsequently Byzantine and Greek, with an prothetic u in some Turkic languages. In Ottoman Turkish under the Ottoman Empire, Rum denoted Orthodox Christians living in the Empire; in modern Turkish, Rum denotes Greeks living in Turkey.

The term is used by the following sub-ethnic groups of Greeks as a way of ethnic self-identification:

Crimean-Tatarophone Greeks of North Azov (Ukraine) (Crimean Greeks)
Turcophone Greeks of Tsalka (Georgia) (see Caucasus Greeks)

Technically his surname is Russian but some Armenians have it . The only official Armenian surnames was end in “an “ Or “yan” “Ian “ Or at least that’s how 99 percent of their names are

I believe the "yan" part means "son of"

Looks very eastern shifted, more Asiatic looking than a regular Turanid. More Pamirid if anything.

There is written "Greek descent" on Wikipedia accompagned by this source : http://www.parliament.am/deputies.php?sel=details&ID=963&lang=eng

This source has been updated already and it doesn't show "Greek descendance" anyway, it's the first time i see such an awful page created by an incompetant admin on Wikipedia

He is neither Greek nor Armenian. He doesnt look like either side.

Nevertheless, he is half Greek, half Armenian. Here is a quote from his interview:

Edward Sharmazanov noted that he had Greek roots from his father, and Armenian from his maternal side. “I consider myself hundred percent Armenian and hundred percent Greek. Greece is historical homeland for me, and Armenia is my home where my grandfather, father, and I were born”

http://noev-kovcheg.ru/mag/2011-17/2782.html

Generally speaking Greeks in Armenia are indistinguishable from Armenians. I met in Russia some Greeks from Armenia and I can tell them only by village Armenian language they spoke.

Here is Wikipedia page:

And generally, any acting politician in Armenia is not interested in emphasizing any non-Armenian origin because of very little close to zero chances to be elected

It says Sharmazanov and his family. On the left should be his parents.
