Europe’s desire to create its own army and stop relying on Washington for defense is not only understandable, but would be “positive” for the multipolar world, Vladimir Putin said days after Donald Trump ripped into it.

“Europe is … a powerful economic union and it is only natural that they want to be independent and … sovereign in the field of defense and security,” Putin told RT (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fASBIT4-0dY) in Paris where world leaders gathered to mark the centenary of the end of WWI.

He also described the potential creation of a European army as “a positive process,” adding that it would “strengthen the multipolar world.” The Russian leader even expressed his support to French President Emmanuel Marcon, who recently championed this idea by saying that Russia’s stance on the issue “is aligned with that of France” to some extent.

Macron recently revived the ambitious plans of creating a combined EU military force by saying that it is essential for the security of Europe. He also said that the EU must become independent from its key ally on the other side of the Atlantic, provoking an angry reaction from Washington.
The US President Donald Trump scathed the idea by calling it “very insulting” and demanding that Europe repay the US for its “subsidizing of NATO” instead. The US and French leaders then attempted to smooth out the differences as they agreed on the need for a “stronger Europe” and called the spat a “misunderstanding.”

However, they seemingly failed to agree on a compromise on the issue as Trump still insisted on sharing the “burden of NATO” while Macron showed he was not ready to give up on his idea of a European force.

Speaking about Moscow’s relations with NATO and Washington, Putin said that Russia is always ready for dialogue, adding that the ball is now in the US court. “It is not us who are going to withdraw from the INF Treaty, it is the Americans who plan to do that,” he said, speaking about Washington’s plans to abandon a 30-year-old arms agreement banning the possession and development of short- and mid-range missiles.

The Russian leader added that he hopes negotiations can be restored, most crucially at expert level. He also said that Russia has recently avoided holding large-scale military drills near NATO borders to apparently reduce tensions, adding that Moscow has “no issue with” NATO drills and hopes for dialogue in this field as well.

Putin is much more happy about Trump's "twitter policy", but he's smart enough to not say it loudly.

I do not agree, because France already has a very strong army.
Now France wants to get even more money from the EU countries, so they make a huge army, to threaten Germany and other European Union states with it.
When I say other European Union states I am not referring to Romania, since our rulers have a long tradition of ass-kissing France rulers.
I am referring to Germany,Poland, Sweden,Denmark,Czech Republic,Slovakia, Austria,Bulgaria ,Hungary,Slovenia,Croatia and other Germany partners.

A "multipolar world" is a much more dangerous one. The world is better off with America as the sole superpower.
