I personally am very Northern shifted and close to Dutch people. And Southern Dutch people are culturally and genetically close to us altogether anyway.

Flemish of course, I though that was obvious. :p Some Walloons probably claim to be culturally closer to Dutch than to French, but it's a minority of them and never met such Walloon, not that I often meet Walloons. :p Also, I live in Antwerp. There might be some Walloons living here, but for them it's almost like living abroad having to adapt to a new language and mentality and new regional government with a lot of autonomy.

I do know one Walloon woman, well a Francophone one with a German surname hailing from Wallonia but from a broken family, who lives in Antwerp. She's my cousin's best friend. But she speaks Dutch with a barely noticeable accent, but French with her mother still.

Well, about Walloons. They're very divided about their identity, as are we. On the Belgium subreddit one Walloon even said 'if Belgium were to split and Wallonia would be part of France, I would move to Flanders, Luxembourg or even the Netherlands. I have a lot more affinity to them than to France. This is a minority stance in Wallonia, though. It's because historically Wallonia always was part of the Low Countries and the Holy Roman Empire. Hardly ever part of France, despite being linguistically and even culturally close to them.

However, having been part of and identifying culturally with, completely different matters. :) It was not up to the people to decide that in history.
There even was a turbulent part of Belgian history when Walloons were very malcontent with Belgium that 40% of their members of the Parliament were in favour of becoming part of France. That was in 1946 during the King Question, when Walloons were by and large furious at King Leopold III having been a bit too friendly with the German occupant. He had to abdicate in 1950 to restore the peace in Belgium.

Walloons are nowadays largely in favour of carrying on as a region of Belgium, as are the majority of Flemings, by the way. It is often said that Walloons are less Belgian nationalist than they seem and Flemish are less autonomists than we seem. On the outside a Walloon prefers to call him-/herself Belgian over Walloon whereas Flemish people emphasise on being Flemish over Belgian. I myself call myself Belgian over Flemish, but it only evolved that way over the years.

By the way, with Newman, a crypto-Walloon member here I once discussed the important question of how easy/hard it is for a Fleming to seduce a Walloon girl. He said that vice versa would be easier, as Flemish presses are less belligerent about communautarian issues than the Francophone ones are. Still, I had right swipes from Francophone Belgian women from both Brussels and Wallonia on Tinder while my profile is in Dutch, but no meetups. :p

The Flemish are basically Dutch. Not a real ethnicity, I think. More like a regional culture.

Revealing in itself that Europe separated on the principle East-West, than North-South
