View Full Version : Mother's father= baldness?

I was always worried I would go bald because my maternal grandfather had a receding hairline in his mid 30s and noticeably bald by the time he was 50. My older brother is 52 and still has a full head of hair. My hair is not as good as his, though. My dad never had any balding, and in his mid 80s still has all his hair, although naturally much thinner than it was.
I know some men who are bald, and almost always- they have a bald father. They keep saying your father's hair genetics don't count. Is this true? Almost always it seems men who go bald have bald fathers. But the old adage is always it's your mother's father that counts. Which is more true? IMO, there' s nothing worse than going bald. Even Donald Trump agrees!

If you're ripped and shave your head, it can be a very attractive/masculine look, so don't worry too much about it?
Also, I've heard the same about the maternal side's grandfather, but it probably is just hearsay, I think.

Wouldn't look good on me. Some men can pull it off and look good. But it depends. I already started on Finasteride just to be safe!

My maternal grandfather has a full head of hair in his early 70s, so if it's true, I'm happy about it.

My maternal grandfather is practically bald and my paternal grandfather died young and long ago so I didn’t get to see him age, but my father is in his 70s and still has lots of hair even though it has gotten grey and thinner.

Can't give any brilliant insight, but I heard that once too and asked a guy who was knowledgeable in the field, all he really told me was it was a myth and hair (or hair genetics?) doesn't work like that.

Do you know side effects of Finasteride?

I no longer have hair loss because of taking medicine, but the way my hair was slowly starting to go, did not follow that of my maternal grandfather, who already had a severely receded hairline at my age whereas I was just experiencing minor thinning.

Oh that's exaggerated. Only less than 2% or something. I will still be able to have a baby maker.
