I suppose that the people presented were chosen as 'Northern Russian' because of their current location, right? Well, keep in mind that people migrate very from city to city and region to region in Russia, so some of the people presented may not have any Northern Russian ancestry at all, they may just be, say, Ukrainians whose parents moved to work in Arkhangelsk, for example, which is very common.

Vyacheslav, what is your own admixture? You scored closest me on the thread figuring K13 similarity between members. It is obvious that you score between east and west Finns with me. West Finns would score around 1-4, east Finns 10-20, you 7. There are no west Finns on that reference. This does not mean common ancretry, but suchlike old admixture in some extent, which is interesting too.

Agreed. Most of the Northern Russians posted in this thread looks very East Euro/Slavic and very different from Finns imo. I think they are migrants from other parts of the country.

Strong overlap with Finns in my opinion.

Very few of the overlap with Finns, even less with East Finns. They look predominantly Russian Slavic. I always wonder why North Russians give an angry vibe.

That's what I thought as well. They look like are recent Russian migrants. I think if we want to see strong overlap, we have to search for Karelians/Vepsians/Ingrians, Pomors or ethnic Komi.

In the Soviet Union, people were relocated to wherever the jobs were. Also, I believe that being sent to Archangelsk was a punishment considered by some as worse than being exiled to Siberia. I doubt many Russians today are pure locals with all four grandparents born in the same region.

Not like that, but closest groups of ancient Finns lived in Estonia and Livonia. In Finland there was no Finns before 1600-1800 BP. The Finns came from Estonia and Livonia, mixed later in Finland.

Estonia, Russia and Belarus are the non-Baltic countries which descend the most from Balt tribes.

In K13 I’m supposedly a Russian Arkhangelsk-Vologda person and closest to Not a Cop’s Russian Grandmother, (followed by Finnish Jusarius and Sippola)
But then when I look at the images of the people from those regions, they do not resemble us, they just look typical Slavic Russians.

According to BioGeographical Ancestry analysis, Davidski placed me @ Sorokka, (which now, after I’ve learned more about my ancestry, makes sense). That is also a birthplace of Santtu, who as a young man could have been my uncle’s twin. (I had posted about this before):
