This calculator isn't going to be accurate for people of significant non-NW Euro ancestry, obviously.

Daco Celtic is half Irish.
His mix of ancestry is giving him more French and Central European results.

Yes, that's pretty much it. Since the calculator was designed for NW Europeans, I think its giving me French results because they are the most south shifted of this bunch, kind of compensating for my mix. It is sort of like when single sharing oracles list me as Northern French or South German even though I'm really neither of those things. Interestingly, the fits weren't too bad for this calculator at 1.1795 and 1.1997.

Did you do Ancestry or 23andMe? Did they get your mix correct or did you end up with some strange results?
If you did Ancestry they appear really accurate with their GCs so I'd presume because your half-Irish that you would get an Irish GC.

Ancestry seems to struggle with some mixed people, I got majority Germanic Europe, only 7% British, then Slavic, it seems to take more of an average for half SE + half NW Europe, other people I have spoken to on the forum have had similar results, usually getting majority central Europe on ancestry. 23andme was better for me, got my mix perfect, I don't know about Daco-celt.

I did Ancestry, below are the latest results. The Irish part seems fairly accurate since I know my mom's side is from the Cork area. DNA Land and My Heritage gave me similar results for Irish.

I think Ancestry is great for Ireland and British Isles. They can almost tell you the town your family came from. At the same time it is kind of weak for East Europe. I think its a matter of samples sizes. They have lots of samples from the British Isles and not enough from Eastern Europe.

It wasn't good for me if it's telling me I'm 7% British. I've taken around 8 autosomal tests and it was by far the worst. Even myheritage was better. Something is seriously wrong with their algorithm when the ancestrydna data can give me near perfect results on gedmatch, FTDNA.

I think Ancestry favors people from Cork :p. All kidding aside, I think Ancestry did a good job of picking up my Irish heritage and even knew the right locations within Ireland. No other test came close to doing that. I would concede that they aren't the best for Eastern or South East Europe. I'm a bit confused to why your results were so off, but I think it varies from person to person.

They are pretty good on your Irish but still split up your Romanian into different categories. Most dna companies appear very good at picking up Irish. I don't think they would have too many Romanian samples and I'd also presume that there are some differences in Romania itself anyway. I think the algorithm will also have some difficulties with mixed people anyway. From my observations they breakdown some regions dna more into different categories because they don't have enough samples.

Your ancestry appears very much centred around Cork. My GCs were all over the place. The only area I didn't get a GC was in Ulster.

Yeah, it's my understanding that Cork and most of Munster was a bit cutoff from the rest of Ireland due to geography. Maybe bogs? I wonder if they didn't intermix much with people outside that area.
According to Ancestry:
"The remote regions of Munster, Ireland’s southwestern province—including the western peninsulas of Cork and Kerry and the boggy highlands of Limerick—were the ideal refuge for Irish outlaws who rebelled against their British rulers, which they did frequently. Cork soon came to be known as “the rebel city.” Protected by impassable peat bogs and mountains, these outlaws and their descendants practiced Catholicism freely and preserved a distinct culture of Gaelic language, literature, song, and dance. Dairying was especially prevalent in Munster, and families typically had many children to help with the unending labor such a lifestyle demanded."

Mountains most probably although Cork did get its share of English and Vikings. In the Irish DNA Atlas Cork is the most distinctive area but all the Irish regions are genetically close anyway. The Irish DNA Atlas and Insular Celtic study were done on a very fine scale level. I'm also Munster from my mother's side but she is from North Munster. I also get Connacht and Leinster GCs but my father was from more middle-west Ireland.
Cork is known as the rebel county in Ireland. Michael Collins was from Cork and so is Graham Norton. :)

Sorry, I just now saw this response. Yes, the Viking were in Cork and more or less made it a trading post. I guess Collins was born in Clonakilty, the same town my great grandfather was born and raised. My great grandfather came to the US around 1910 which was pretty late compared to most Irish Americans. Cool that you have family North Munster. Long live rebel country!
