Geneflow from across the Balkan peninsula, which may or may not be Greek. As far as "Arab" like admixture, what I find is a constant Phoenician type input across all Sicily and Calabria, which is present but dissipates elsewhere in the south to nearly nothing along the Adriatic coast, plus evidence of Berber and Arabian ancestry which seems restricted to Sicily.

Compared to a South Italian baseline, it appears as I have stated before that Trapani, Ragusa, and Syracuse are more north/west "European" while the other provinces are more "MENA" of varying types. North African type input should be highest in the western part of Palermo, Agrigento, and Malta.

I'm starting to think that it is true that she has some unknown recent Italian mixture, since she scores 20% Italian on 23andme, and she also scores an unusually high east Med (a component that is higher in Italians and in other south eastern European countries than in Iberians) on Eurogenes K13.

When I say northwestern, I don't exactly mean Britain or Netherlands. But perhaps this is more evidence that old Slavic input (if this is indeed the source) was closer to NW Europe than modern Russians and Ukrainians are, which was always my idea actually. Basques recieved a large steppe component early on. They can be modeled as roughly 75% Iberia_CHL and 25% Yamnaya.

It's not real spanish ancestry. But because of their similar ancestral proportions (steppe, neolithic, etc) makes them fall in the middle between balkanic popoulations and iberians.
