The Capellid type was found in a site situated in the Couze valley in the Périgord region of southern France dating from 9500 years ago.

Some authors credit them as a refined cro-magnon type. Other authors as a proto-mediterranean type. There are even authors that consider this type a type itself. If Capellids (also known as Aurignacoid) aren't cromagnon neither mediterraneans, did they leave survivors or they were extinct without leave descendants?
