An Assyrian from the Nineveh Plains in northern Iraq, the hottest part of our homeland, but they tend to have the lighter folks strangely. Pics are not the best:

We Assyrians are very phenotypically diverse, not too surprised lol.

Is there any record of assimilated Albanians in Assyria?

Not that I know of lmao. There were Albanians in Iraq during the Ottoman period most likely, but they were Muslims so I doubt we would have intermixed with them tbh.

A couple of times, having made someone's acquaintance, I asked them if they were Assyrian, and they were surprised I could pick them out

Fair enough

Do Assyrian highlanders look different from flatlanders?

In my experience and from what I've heard from other Assyrians in my community is there is a noticeable difference between the two groups. Of course it depends on the village/tribe/city but as a general rule, those collectively from the Nineveh Plains are lighter on average than their counterparts in the Hakkari/Urmia mountains. It's not a crazy difference in frequency, but it is definitely a thing imo. I'm not so sure about the Assyrians from Tur Abdin, but I would guess that they are also lighter on average than Assyrians from Hakkari/Urmia who have the most dark features on average in the Assyrian population.

*Also in terms of height, I would also say that those from Nineveh Plains tend to be shorter on average when compared to other Assyrian collectives.

Interesting

So its exactly the opposite of the case for Greeks

Because Greek mountain people are supposed to look lighter and less Med than coastal people

As what Nazarene said, we wouldn't mix with the Muslims. That would be a taboo in our culture.

And yes, flatlanders are more lighter skinned than those from the mountaineers in the north. And it's funny, because in southeastern Turkey, where the mountains are at, summers are not that hot and winters are freezing and cloudy. Whereas the flatland to the south has virtually Baghdad-style summers with constant 40C+ highs and relatively mild winters at around 10C. But the folks there somehow tend to be lighter. Pretty weird & interesting.

So he looks Albanian? Not sure how they typically look, because to me he looks more central-eastern European (Polish mostly, but would fit as Bosnian as well). You tell me. Honestly, if I were to see him walking in a white suburb in Sydney I'd quickly guess him as an Anglo-Celtic Australian.

He looks like the type of Mainland Greeks Sikeliot would call Slavicized

Compare to this Mainland Greek singer

Let's fly him there and make him do a duo with these Slavic looking Greek singers. :p

Ηe could easily make a duo

The music in the second video actually sounds a bit like popular modern Assyrian music i think..

Close, it sounds more like Kurdish, but we do use that beat. ;)

Anyway, let's see how Remon sings (he starts to sing at 2:20):

What do you make of it, classification wise?

To me, he looks almost textbook Alpine in this, albeit a depigmented one (I would think alpines are generally darker, no?).

Pontid yes he does look Balkanish, his type does exist in North of Iraq so it's not that strange. I know an Arabized Assyrian who looks like him, I posted his results on here, and turns out he is pretty normal Assyrian. Assyrians have lots of Caucasus/West Asian like DNA which can explain these types

Nigga is a some sort of East Alpinid-shifted type with a "paleo-Balkan" admixture (that pseudo-Neo Danubian forehead really throws me off).

And in this one he even looks English. Smh.
