Pretty sure they're genetically similar to the other Iraqi Arabs, probably near identical with the Shia Arabs of the south

Possibly, but if they are related to Iraqi Shia Arabs, than they are mostly Yemenite Qahatani Bedouin tribes, which most Shia Arabs are in Iraq, and also they are recent converts to Shiaism
