Reasons for Newcastle to leave the U.K.
I have many feelings for Newcastle to leave the U.K. as a principality, as it's own nation or even as a part of Scotland, and I feel that I must share these views for my city and my people who I must admit not all will feel like this or want what I want, but it must be said that the vast majority do.
Newcastle upon Tyne has long been overlooked, as well as other places north of London, but unfortunately we seem to always get the worse end of ever deal that goes and never seem to be recognised (other then the minor occasions our football team has been successful in defeating a big team or doing well in cup competitions).
I will back this up with many points and as time goes by I will more then likely be given more points to back up my case.
Magalev:
A fast speed train from London to Scotland (which would take 3 hours most), having stations at Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds,Teeside, Newcastle, Edinburgh and Glasgow. This was planned and would benefit every place and region it stopped at apart from London, however it was scraped because it would cost too much, two months later London gets the go ahead for a cross city train service that will cost exactly the same money (approx 60billion). Sorry but doesn't London already have that in the underground, nice, while everywhere else suffers you get the lot. Newcastle is begging for 600m to develop the Metro system, and this money would take over twenty years to actually spend. In late 2008 it was revealed that there would be a non-Magalev fast rail link produced, this excluded Newcastle upon Tyne, the North East of England, and Scotland.
Miracle drug:
Scientists in Newcastle developed a new drug that could save cancer patients, this did not get any recognition in any national papers, its a drug that could change the human race for gods sake.
Casino:
Newcastle came up with the original idea of a mega casino, we also made all the plans and predations for it, witch other cities took.
We were the best prepared for it (gambling problems), yet somehow we didn't get it. My dad actually delivered goods for the casino to London before it was confirmed where it would be (Eventually Manchester), then it was scrapped all together.
Missing money:
The government handed out EU money that was intended for Newcastle upon Tyne to Newcastle under Lyme instead, this was numerous months ago and Newcastle under Lyme has not giving all the money back, we are still owed £3m. How can a Government not know the geography of its own country?
North sea oil:
Newcastle does not see any money that is raised from the oil and gas mines in the North sea, despite the fact that it's own coastline as well as Scotland's is the one being damaged and polluted by the mining, as well as giving the majority of labour to these services.
If in the case that Newcastle did earn independence from the U.K. then it would automatically own the oil and gas in the North sea, this would also be increased if it was to earn independence under the Scottish parliament.
Newcastle and Scotland ties:
Newcastle and Scotland share many ties, from migrated people in both directions to cultural and lifestyle techniques. The Scottish parliament is located closer to Newcastle then it's own parliament is, in light of this both the Scottish parliament and Newcastle city council work closely together in many sectors.
Newcastle and Northumberland have it's own Tartan.
Newcastle has a large amount of Scottish people living in it's boundaries as well does Scotland with Geordies.
Many examples of Scottish culture can be found in Newcastle along with large number of bag pipers in Northumberland St.
Benefits the Geordie people will earn if governed by Scotland:
The Geordie nation would see large amount of benefits if they were governed by the Scottish parliament, this includes, free dental care, free prescriptions, free O.A.P. resting homes, free university fees for students, more drugs available through the NHS, better regeneration funding. these are just a few of the many benefits that the Geordie people could have if they became apart of Scotland.Source? You have got to admire the guys enthusiastic naivety.
I especially love the part where he equates leaving England and joining an independent Scotland would gather great benefits like 'free dental care' for Newcastle, when the sad irony is the reason that it is available in Scotland is through their connection with England.
As for the North Sea Oil part...
