Samoan eh?
Do Jomon and Taiwanese Aborigines share common ancestry close enough for Polynesian to show up on a Neolithic Japanese sample?

Well I think Jomon share a branch with both the Papuan _and_ the Native American on the genetic tree. Both native americans + austronesians are often said to be "Proto-Mongoloids" in regards to physical anthropology, and the Jomon seem to cluster genetically with SE-Asians overall..so to show up as partially Polynesian according to Gedmatch oracle makes sense, along with that Indian-like element in there too

Too bad we can't run this on LukaszM's K47. Then we could see the proportion of 'Amuro-Manchurian'/Paleo-Siberian and South Asian signals.

In fact that would cluster the Aboriginal Taiwanese and maybe Uchumanchu as relatives or even part of the continuum related to those "Jomon". Of course they would receive more NE Asian inputs with time (which would make them a different group from any other in Asia, unless Philippines have a close background); in Japan however they were replaced by a different ethnic group which absoved some "Jomon" background but still a different one, closer to Koreans and Chinese.

Would not say strange, but those tests tend to have some weird numbers sometimes. Dunno if all those calculator can in fact register some numbers. I remember I saw some company test which the person had like 0% SSA but all the time got 4% at some calculators. I mean, people put they hand on fire for calculators while they can give some weird results (which are far more uncommon to happen with pure Europeans, for an example).

This chart shows no particular affinity between Native Americans and Jomon. On the contrary, it is showing that Karitiana clusters closer to modern East Asians than to Jomon, and that the Jomon are the Mongoloid group most differentiated from the rest among those used in this TreeMix analysis. This confirms one of the theses mentioned by the authors of that paper: that Jomon separated from the rest of the East Asians even earlier than the ancestors of Native Americans did.
The terms protomongoloid and neomongoloid merely describe phenotypes and have no confirmed genetic validity. Eskimos are neomongoloids, but they are much closer genetically to Native Americans than any Polynesian group.
