Norway's armed forces says that one of its soldiers accidentally fired a grenade into a police building in northwestern Afghanistan, killing an Afghan civilian and wounding another.
The army says the 1.6-inch (40 millimeter) grenade hit a building within a police headquarters compound in the Almar district of the northwestern Faryab province on Wednesday, killing one person and wounding another. The victims worked for a local pluming firm.
The wounded person is being treated at a Norwegian field hospital.
According to the army, the incident happened when one of its soldiers was preparing a grenade launcher on a military vehicle and the weapon accidentally went off.
The incident will be investigated by both Norwegian military police and Afghan police.
