Interesting how northern-shifted he was compared to modern South French.

Any comments?

Bell Beakers were very mobile , probably a recent migrant or descendant of a more northern bell beaker population (Britain, Nerherlands etc)

I would have to agree with you because the Bell_Beaker_Netherlands sample is essentially an Occitan.

Any comments?

I guess the Roman Empire had a massive effect on the demographics of southern France.

Do we have one from Switzerland?

No, but there is one from area between Mulhouse and Basel (near Swiss border) and one near Annecy (France, between Geneva and Aosta).

Processing the samples takes time.

They did, but Bell Beakers like this guy were migrants from the Netherlands and Rhine area. No reason to believe he was the average population. Southern France was probably too populated for the Beakers to kill off the farmers like they did in Britain.

to kill off the farmers like they did in Britain.

I think it was mainly infectious diseases that depopulated Neolithic Britain.

That outbreak of the plague started even before Beaker immigration, IIRC (archaeology shows a decline in population already before the Beaker period).

Could be also some major crop failure, causing starvation (in addition to plague).

I wouldn't mind seeing the one from Basel.

Also are Tollense warriors still on Gedmatch by any chance?

That is possible Mr dragon, but most likely this is just an immigrant who was yet to intergrate himself into the surrounding neolithic population, likely this guys children and granchildren would be with neolithic women

Yes. It's been shown previously that Ireland at any rate (so most probably Britain as well) had a significant population decline before the Beakers came.

Highlights

•Abrupt uptake of agriculture associated with ‘house horizon’ 3720–3620 cal BC.

•Fixed plot ‘garden’ agriculture inferred.

•Elm decline asynchronous, but associated in many places with early agriculture.

•Early boom followed by major archaeological & landscape changes 3500–3000 cal BC.

Observed changes in Ireland have parallels in Britain and further afield.
