I've seen both groups they both have Indic features. Their skin colours are different but their facial features are similar.

But I'm sure for Indic eyes the differences are plain too.

This picture exists for a reason. Although exaggerated with the explanation, the faces in that picture are relatively common for their respective regions. From afar, most indians will look like brown blobs but if you observe their features, facial metrics, skin texture, head sizes, and other factors closely there are huge differences.

I have not been to punjab but I have been to rajasthan and western UP. South indians in these areas stand out quite easily.

Do others except south Asians see these differences?

if they see differences between koreans, chinese, and japanese LOLL then I dont see why they would have trouble differentiating punjabis and tamils

if they see differences between koreans, chinese, and japanese LOLL then yes I'd definitely expect them to see differences between tamils and punjabis.

true

They're genetically so similar

South Indian pictures are heavily cherrypicked imo. They should've cherrypicked from upper caste South Indians if they want to do fair comparison lol. Anyways, I do think there's some difference between North and South India. Northwest India was migration/invasion corridor to South Asia, so they're more phenotypically diverse than rest of South Asia.

Yeah, they always pick Tamils and shit like that. A lot of Kerala people and mid castes dont look horribly different from other Indians.

This chart is very outdated. Check out some gedmatch results.

This PCA below demonstrates how diverse indians are. tamil brahmins and tamil dalits are as different from each other as northern europeans are from kurds. With addition of pakistanis(similar to indian punjabis) and irulas (tribals), the differences are immense.

If you change colours I think they can still pass for each other in that picture

They are that big. Trust me. Genetically speaking at least because phenotype is a different story with lots of overlap.

There's some genetic difference but its much less than difference between kurds and northern europe.

The PCA was published before the chart so how can the chart be outdated if the PCA isn't?

Okay actually yes on G25 the difference appears to be less but its still pretty large. I used Mala as substitute for TN scheduled caste. The distance between kurd and norwegian is 18 while Mala and TN Brahmin is 10.

there are some similarities between all south asians (because of ancient shared ancestry), i have seen Sirilankans who look paki punjabi to me, but when you will take large groups differences will be obvious to natives.

This new PCA shows similar trend. Its more recent than the other two charts.

Tamils are significantly uglier. You don't know "ugly" until you've seen a South Indian
