View Full Version : Results of a Muslim/Bosniak from Montenegrin Sandžak!

I already posted them in my Serbian matches PCA thread and Pribislav, with good reason, suggested I should open a seperate one for him:

I guess I should post this guy here too, this is an extraordinary find, I can't believe I let it slip.

Anywhow, this man is a muslim from the Montenegrin part of Sandzak, a place called Vrbica. He has an Albanian haplogroup, R-Y32147 and among his relatives a ton are Albanians and one of the top matches is the banned member 'The Illyrian Warrior'. Interestingly, even despite that it seems he is closer to us than to the average Gheg.

I made a PCA for him too. He plots right where the Montenegrin from Podgorica that Cumansky posted does. He's basically a typical Montenegrin, but considering he has Albanian admix we can only assume his Serbian ancestors from that region had quite northern DNA. If we had more samples like him, we could deduce if that's a general trend or not:

Not a lot of recent Albanian ancestry in this guy, unless the original Raška Serbs were Central-East European like:

In some Sandžak cities/towns settled Anatolians. This guy is probably villager. Villager Muslims were less mixed with "Turkuše" (Anatolians).

Interesting, Sandžakian Muslims from Serbian Sandžak are darker and more Anatolian shifted in looks than those from Montenegrin Sandžak.

Turks and Levantines settled and mixed in Novi Pazar and Tutin, not in random villages in Montenegrin Sandzak like where this guy is from.

From what I have read, the Muslims of Pljevlja, Prijepolje, Priboj and Nove Varoši are closest to Serbs/Montenegrins. Result from Plav or Tutin would probably bring a near pure Albanian result. Old Y dna charts from Sandzak dna project had less slavic Y dna than Albania proper.

Indeed, now Sandzak dna project has merged and become part of the "Bosniak" dna project; they also take Torbesh and Pomak results.

I managed to find a Bosniak from Prijepolje and he's quite north east from the Romanian dot on the k15 plot. His haplogroup is J2b1.

Interesting. I would say based on the OP's results he is basically a Serb but with a Albanian paternal ancestor. His matches with Albanians don't mean too much as Albanians similar to Ashkenazi Jews are incredibly inbred, even having 1/16th Albanian would get you dozens of matches. Look at Richmond, 1/16th Ashkenazi and gets over 100 jews on gedmatch

Dude, you should be the last group to talk about inbreeding in Europe. You belong to PH908 for fucks sake - a group that only started expanding 1800 years ago and represents like over 30% of your nation. CTS10228 as whole that's only like 2000 years old is one of the major slavic haplos, like close to 100m slavs belong to it.

Yes, from Prijepolje.

Expected results for that area.

I would like to see Sandžakians from Tutin, Novi Pazar, Sjenica and Rožaje.

Novi pazar would be interesting, even in 1953 turks were 11 thousand out of 53 thousand, many of these then changed identity to "Muslim" in the next census, and finally bosniaks.

I have a friend (100% Bosniak) whose mother is from Sjenica and I'm hoping he will test some time soon. Would be interesting.

That would be good as he would likely get gedmatch matches of pure Sandzakians that would be useful to see.

Going by the census Bosniaks/Muslims declared as Turks and then again as Bosniaks/Muslims.

I can only see from 1953 where they are declared as Turks, and then Muslims the next census, do you have earlier census data?

So far, have any sandzakian bearing the"Turkish" component been found?
