View Full Version : 5 Portuguese VS 5 Spaniards with the same name, guess them correctly

Sebastianus Rex

Almost the same as I did recently for 5 Portuguese vs 5 white Brazilians with the same name - Carlos Fernandes(z)

This time with Portuguese and Spaniards, nor exactly the same name because Portuguese are Carlos Fernandes while Spaniards are Carlos Fernandez, just a small variant of the surname.

Guess their nationality correctly.

Portuguese have a tendency towards darker pigmentation (the darker Portuguese are darker than the darker Spanish people) and extreme narrow-facedness imo but here it's difficult to guess.

Narrow-facedness? I think the Portuguese tend to be coarser (more Cro-Magnon).

It's actually the opposite, Spain has some extreme dark or eastern types that are unpassable in Portugal.

Correct formula is:
1,2, 5,6, 9 Spaniards
3,4,7,8,10 Port.

But I'd also say that Spain has a marginally higher percentage of light and Nordish types too. (Mostly in the Basque Country and surrounding regions - less so elsewhere).

Perhaps in a reduced geographical area, it covers a territory that is 6 times bigger, but also evident that Spain has way more Gitano types, some are truly unpassable here and that's the God honest truth.

I don't think it is at all contradictory to say that one country can at the same time have more very light and very dark types than another country. In fact, I am not sure if you've seen my threads about English and German footballers, but what I said there is that Germans have more extremes than the English do - more blond Scandinavian-like types but also more truly Med types, whereas the English may be more brunette on the whole but their darker types relatively seldom look as exotic as do quite a few dark Germans.

The two Nachos are debatable. However, Kiko Vega has almost white hair:

LOL at them. Nearly in every Venezuelan bakery (at least at the time when I lived in Venezuela. Not sure now) most of the workers were Portuguese, and many of them had blondish hair tones, and very standard Euro look, with most of them being able to pass as white Muricans or whatever. And many of my classmates of Portuguese descent were fair skinned, and had good rates of individuals with chestnut or blond hair tones. People on this forum who insist on Madeirans being some kind of octoroons are delusional.

I thought over 1.5 milion venezuelans have iberian ancestry via Portugal.

In my opinion, to see portugueses and spaniards trying to say the other is different is sad, to me its like someone from Milan say that Turim is different or someone from Wallonie say that Normandy is different. Maybe they can be, but its not something we can perceive at all. Its a minimum bullshit difference. I have spanish and portuguese blood both via my mother(Galicia/Minho/Coimbra/Azores/Tras os Montes) and via my father(Galicia/Minho/Andaluzia/Navarra), my surname is also spanish galician, but Galicia is still Spain anyway.
