Croat from Zadar gedmatch results

I manage to find this guy accidentally while browsing through my relative list. I missed him all this time because he has an unsual surname. All of his ancestry he listed is from the Zadar area, though there is no doubt about his ethnicity, all surnames are Croatian and very foreign to me (Belfranin, Gvardijan, Kospirić, etc.) and none of the ancestors have Italian first names. Unsually low Baltic component is the first thing that stands out:

Later in the early Middle Ages Slavic settlers took over the area and the city became gradually slavicized, but as far as I know all coastal cities had autonomy from the local Slavic principalities, they kept their old administration and a form of latin was used in official documents. The city was later a part of the Venetian Republic from the 15th to the end of the 18th century after which it fell underneath the rule of the Austrian Empire. The rest you should already be familiar with. As for minorities, there were Italian, Serbian and Albanian settlers in the city, but I don't known much about their numbers or impact. What's obvious is that the Zadrani have completely outlier results compared to the rest of the Croatian ethnicity and I'm not even talking about those with recent foreign admixture like Robocop. Also the grandfather, born in the first half of the 19th century is listed as adopted. The haplogroup FTDNA gives him is E-M35, meaning he could have some Italian ancestry, just not sure how much of it is recent.

Dinaric used to be the dominant phenotype (but far from being the only one), but that's not the case anymore. Croats nowadays seem to be mainly Alpines, while Serbs are mostly Med/Pontid. Also, the similarity in appearance doesn't matter when it comes to genes. All Italians are distant from South Slavs and among them there are great differences too (Sicilians and Lombards share pretty much only a lingustic and somewhat a cultural relation).

Istrian and Dalmatian Italians were mix of settlers from Italy during the Venetian rule and assimilatted local Slavs and Vlachs. Like Balkan Turks are mix of Anatolian settlers and islamized locals.

According to Serbian historian Jovan Tomić referring to some writing (population census of Zadar and surroundings) from 1608 now allegedly located in Serbian Academy of Science in Belgrade said that it is visible from that writing that the population of Zadar is Slavic, in villages and the town itself except for officials, soldiers, some priests and some craftsmen. During 13th or 14th century century for example there was still a struggle between Italians and Croats there. Ottoman invasion changed that.

After the loss of Lombary and Venice in the second half of the 19th century Austro-Hungary relocated many of its Italian officials, mostly soldiers to Zadar, as the capital of Dalmatia. That is when Italians started taking hold of the city and especially after Zadar was basically given to Italians (mostly thanks to Servs) in 1921 (Treaty of Rapallo) after which there was a mass exodus of Croats from Zadar and influx of Italians all the way until the WW2. Later Tito expelled them. Make no mistake thinking that those expelled Italians were all natives.
