There are self-declared pardos scoring more than 80% European and self-declares whites scoring less and even families in which almost everyone is between 70-90% European but with high phenotypical diversity.

Spaniards had a bigger impact in Brazil than Polish people both in the colonial period and in the last two centuries, but the impression I always had (and we have a thread about this) is that the Spanish immigration in the last two centuries is not very mentioned in Brazil, it's overshadowed by the Italian and German ones.

Yep. Brazil received more post-independence Spanish immigration than all Hispanic American countries apart from Argentina and Cuba.
But the ''Spanish diaspora'' got dilluted quickly in Brazil, most married Brazilians of colonial background, Portuguese, Italians, Lebanese etc.

Spanish + Lebanese is even a common mix in São Paulo.

Spanish + Lebanese is even a common mix in São Paulo.

More Spanish immigrants in Brazil than in Mexico, Venezuela and Chile? Really? I also find it droll how in both Brazil and Argentina, Southern Euro descendants and Levantine descendants have intermarried to the point where they are often barely even distinguishable, whereas in Europe it is Southern Europeans who are often among the most vociferous opponents of Arab immigration (much less mixing with them).

1 - Here in Santa Catarina, the german influence is bigger than the italian one (our largest city was created by a german company - Joinville -). In Paraná the italian win this matchup, and in Rio Grande do Sul it is a tie (italians in the northeast of the state, and germans in the northwest).Non cahtl
2 - Spaniards by far. The gaucho accent spoke here in south is very influenced by the spanish language. Add the heritage left by galician immigrants in the XX century in São Paulo too. Polish descendants are - mostly - just farmers here.
3 - Very low. Pardos are usually mixed with Portuguese and Africa backgrounds with a very little native imput.
4 - None. But, if you ask it to a gaucho, it will say that it feels more related to both (similiar culture and traditions).
5 - I do not like it.
6 - Non catholic religions. Evangelicals will take the country in the next decades.
7 - None
8 - None
9 - The biggest part of the population is against it.
10 - Euro trirracial by a long shot.
11 - Pardas with big butt.
12 - No. Never.

No. It is a stereotype. A lot of people hate carnaval because it is financiated and made with public money (from taxes). I hate it too. But, I love football and it is in fact the most popular sport here. Pele is a god here.

How common would you say that knowledge of English, Spanish or indeed any other foreign language is in Brazil? Because all the travel guides in this country say that only in expensive hotels and restaurants in Brazil can you be guaranteed that people will know English. (Not that it affected me when I went there, as I speak Portuguese anyway of course).

As portuguese speakers, we will always understand spanish. On my school, I did have english and spanish classes. The recent generations - a good part - know how to speak english. The eldest ones only speak portuguese.

Our opinion about indians is very influenced by a national novel about India. People that marry by arranged marriages, people that belong tô some caste. Recently, some brazilians have read some stuff about India thanks tô the conflit between India and Pakistan. According to the comments that I saw in the youtube, a lot of brazilians are supporting India because brazilians do not like islam.

Damn, I have a looooooooot of questions... Could I start just now with a few and I do many others after? :D
Keep in mind that the last time I went there was in 1997 (in 2014 with my family went there too, but it was just less than one day in the brazilian side of the falls) so many quetions could be silly, but I am really interesting to know about these subjects.

Well... I'll start:

1- Would I be considered "caipira" or "camponês" or something like a "redneck" considering I am originally from a town with less than 30,000 inhabitants? (I feel proud to be it if I would be considered, so don t worry if you answer "yes" hehe :D)

2- Is it common to find third positionists (conservatives nor liberals and nor socialists) among brazilian people at these times?

3- Are there many people who still like brazilian classic musicians like Roberto Carlos, Caetano Veloso, María Bethânia, Gal Costa, Milton Nascimento, Jorge Benjor, Neguinho da Beija Flor, Beth Carvalho and also romantic singers musicians of the 80s like Simone Bittencourt or Joanna? (I love all of them)

4- Sertanejo universitário still be trend, or real sertanejo is comming back?

5- Romário or Ronaldo?

6- Are japanese - brazilians totally integrated culturally talking?

7- Is it Espírito Santo a quiet State?

8- Is the term "gringo" affectionate / kindly? (I recived that nick from some friends or my cariocas relatives, but I was an adolescent at that time. :p )

9- Are the best beaches located in the northeast? (Even I clarify that I went to a beautiful beach, Jericocoara, in Ceará, but also in SC, SP and RJ states are very nice as I've seen, and there are many States which I've never been)

2- To be honest with you, almost none know what really they trust and defend. None of these comunists use to read Marx, Lenin, Stalin, Engels, Mao Tse Tung; the conservative ones even do not who is Edmund Burke. If someone is against abortion, it will vote for the right; if someone agree with it, then vote for the left. Almost none gives a fuck to economy. Brazilians vote for people (personality) instead of vote for ideias.

We have our own society. Social class > race. Our culture worships mulattas (women mixed half euro half african). Some people use to follow a motto here - "white women to marry, and mulatta to betray and make sex". Whites in low class do not give a fuck to race thing. Recently, some pardos and blacks are improving their quality of life, and entering in the middle class. I have seen a lot of couples here made by german descendants and pardxs. Basically, the biggest part of brazilians tend to not give so much importance to it.

There are not pure blacks here. The biggest part of these "black brazilians" already born with fine hair. Brazilians only play attencion to skin colour. A lot of these afro-brazilians do destroy their fine hair making it look more "african" on hairdresses. They láck of identity, because they are mixed; but as people see them as blacks (and we associate "blackness" with africa), they tend to identify themselves as blacks.

Our constitucions does ban the a lot of drugs. But, there is a huge marijuana's market here. Everyday I see people selling and buying drugs on my University. Our police already lost the war against drugs and trafficants a long time ago. Unfortunely.

If you had to recommend a city to move and live in Brazil for an Argentine, what would that city be? A friend of mine lived and invested in coastal Santa Catarina and told me it was very nice. Taxes were much lower than here, especially payroll taxes.

My favourite is Sao Paulo but I'm afraid of high criminality (I've been told some horrible stories by Paulistas who moved to Uruguay).

Because all the travel guides in this country say that only in expensive hotels and restaurants in Brazil can you be guaranteed that people will know English. (Not that it affected me when I went there, as I speak Portuguese anyway of course).

The media here and also many gringos glamourize favelas, which is stupid, they shouldn't exist in an ideal Rio.
The majority of the city is surrounded by slums and it's horrible when shootings start, you can be hit even if you don't live there.

A wonderful striker in all senses.
Even Ronaldo as I remember, probably was more complete because he used to start outside the area and left the defenders standing with his talent, speed and his strenght.

It is not that it is more "acceptable", but rather because it is less common than whites + blacks mixes. And as common as this is in Brazil, our society is still very racist as a whole towards blacks.

Depends what you are going to do. The central west region, currently has more growth, North region has a demand for people with an academic background, but this region is limited in infrastructure.

For me, Brazilian city, the maximum limit is 1.5 millons of citizens, larger cities often have many problems.

Duvido, ele, como o Bolso2018 disse, deve ter sido banido pelas suas postagens militantes ateístas. O lisarb não tem "cara" de alguém que pediria um banimento assim do nada, ele gosta de floodar sem parar.

A ideia que tenho dele, é que era/é um individuo muito burro, pouco letrado e além do mais só fazia perguntas de merda sem sentido nenhum. E os argumentos dele ainda eram piores....

Pois na verdade é que este forum nao é a excepcao.
De fato na maioria dos sites os brasileiros estao entre os que melhor relacao tem conosco.
As discussoes sao geralmente de futebol e é burrice contestar a quem tem 5 campeonatos ganhados...
Mas é porque também a gente se conhece, é uma parceria que existe desde ha muito tempo.
E enquanto os portugueses, bom, como parte descendente de acoriano posso dizer que com os brasileiros sao uma mesma familia assim que é lindo ver boa relacao entre voces.

Acho que no futuro próximo, o Brasil vai deixar de ser a seleção com mais copas do mundo. Não estou a ver o Brasil a ganhar mais algum mundial nos próximos anos. Uma coisa que não me desce na garganta, o Boca Juniors poderia ter sido eliminado ainda na fase de grupos, entretanto o tal do Borja decidiu fazer 3 gols contra o Junior Barranquilla, e com isso o Boca Juniors precisava ganhar do Alianza Lima para se classificar, e foi o que aconteceu. O mais curioso, o tal do Borja fazer 3 gols num jogo é mais raro que o Neymar não se lesionando às vésperas de um Carnaval, na verdade é algo surreal, pois o tal do Borja é um dos piores centro-avantes que já vi.

Acho que qualquer torcedor do Boca Juniors preferiria ser eliminado na primeira fase do que perder a final contra o maior rival, na verdade tenho certeza. O Grêmio não tinha nada de espetacular, era um time ainda mais fraco do que em 2017, e o Palmeiras, apesar do elenco, não tinha um futebol bonito de assistir. No fim acho que o River Plate tinha o melhor futebol dentre os 4 semifinalistas, como ponderei em um thread do GrecoRoman no ano passado. Acho que no futuro próximo, o Brasil vai deixar de ser a seleção com mais copas do mundo. Não estou a ver o Brasil a ganhar mais algum mundial nos próximos anos. Principalmente porque só escolhem treinadores sul americanos sem qualidade nenhuma. Nunca apostam em Europeus. Se apostassem num selecionador de jeito da Europa ganhariam com facilidade mas preferem ficar com treinadores ultrapassados ou que não sabem lidar com equipas Europeias.

Um fato curioso, nós fomos eliminados por países do Oeste Europeu nas últimas 4 copas. França em 2006, Holanda em 2010, Alemanha em 2014 e Bélgica em 2018. Tudo leva a crer que a Inglaterra fará o golpe novamente em 2022, mas é só uma hipótese da minha cabeça.

É difícil encontrar lógica no futebol, a Bélgica, por muito pouco, não foi eliminado pelo Japão, uma equipe bem organizada. Creio que um técnico europeu poderia reformular a forma que a seleção joga no sentido de organizá-la e tirar os estrelhinhas que por vezes deixam de fazer um assistência para finalizar. Eu concordo na verdade, lembro que o próprio Guardiola dizia que ele tinha uma escalação pronta para o Brasil na Copa de 14.

Acho que a seleção optou pela tradição de treinadores brasileiros. Há alguns anos, quando nosso único centro-avante era o Fred, e no Brasil o que mais se destacava era o argentino chamado Pratto, logo surgiram campanhas de alguns torcedores do Atlético-MG para que ele se naturalizasse brasileiro para jogar pela seleção, mas isso foi repudiado, pois a seleção nunca teve estrangeiros jogando pela equipe, pelo menos não algum que eu lembre. A verdade é que estrangeiros na seleção ainda é uma barreira que não foi superada.

No fim o melhor centro-avante brasileiro na Copa de 18 foi o Diego Costa da Espanha.

Boca como voce dísse nao saiu desde o inicio de milagre e River chegou de maneira bastante suja ajudado pelos juizes e essa partida contra o Gremio foi uma vergonha total ainda que o Gremio tava fraco.

Depends what you are going to do. The central west region, currently has more growth, North region has a demand for people with an academic background, but this region is limited in infrastructure.

Because he was probably the best ruler Brazil ever had. In the 19th century Brazil was actually very prestigious in its post-independence phase only due to the presence of European nobles as the rulling elite (Pedro II was descendant of the Portuguese and the Austrian/Habsburg royal families, that's why our flag is green and yellow). Pedro II was a very capable ruler and an erudite: he could speak Hebrew, Arabic, Greek, Latin, Sanskrit, Persian, he was interested in sciences and bringing technical development to Brazil, wanted to modernize the country and expel the wounds created by slavery, tried to reform our land system (allowing European and internal migrants to have easier access to the free lands) and made Brazil the most respected and hegemonic Latin American country.

The Republican coup d'etat which put an end to monarchy in Brazil was led by land-owners/ rural oligarchs who were unsatisfied with the reforms Pedro II was doing in Brazil. They would like Brazil to become a perpetual agrarian state only exporting basic goods to Europe and the USA, a kind of neocolonial situation. The creation of the Republic equalized Brazil with all the other LA countries: a failed Republic governed by corrupt and incompetent land-owners, a kind of continuation of the colonial system.

Anyway, the Empire wouldn't last for long after his death, the de facto ruler would be his son in law, the Count D'Eu, a French nobleman and son of the last Orléans French king. The Count D'Eu, despite doing all efforts to be liked and dedicating a lot of his time to Brazil (he even fought in the war against Paraguay and was the Brazilian commander in chief), was hated by the press (controlled by agrarian land-owners) and it created a general antipathy towards him.

Ironically, the Count D'Eu was so fond of Brazil that he died on the coast of Bahia in 1922 when he was returning to Brazil after the royal family got expelled to commemorate the centenary of Brazilian independence.

I'm quite sure Brazil would be a totally different country if the Monarchy was never abolished. Instead it became just another Latin American banana Republic governed by corrupt and incompetent politicians.

I have a good impression of the Lebanese, they are a sucessful group and integrate themselves very well, many look no diferent from the average white here, blend in easily if you don't notice their surname.

In that case either many 'Lebanese' are now mixed with Europeans, or else Brazil has a much more expansive definition of 'whiteness' than anywhere in Europe, North America and Oceania does.

I don't think things are so different in most of Europe tbh. I've visited Europe many times and the Anglo concept of ''whiteness'' seems to be very non-existent in most of Europe. Jews and Christian Levantines are also counted as “white” in the USA. As for Arabs, Muslims are seen as refugees/terrorists while Orthodox Christians are on pair with Europeans and the Japanese with their positive contributions to the country. What the hell are you talking about?

Ronaldinho apart to be a super kindly person was a juggler with the ball. A monster really.
But for any reason I think that Ronaldo Nazario was the most different player that I ever seen, with a ton of talent combined by an electrifying speed and an impressive strenght.
And also the fact that he started in 3/4 of the field and when he took the ball the defenders almost never could stop him.
I've never seen before and after a player like him. The most impressive and sui géneris IMO.

The problem is that robbery rates are hard to detect, since it is based on Incident Report (Famous B.O), how you said SP is full of policemen and it is something I actually liked about S.P., when I have been to Rio I have badly seen any police on the streets and when I was in SP they were like everywhere, so for logical conclusion it shouldn't be hard to any paulista go to a Police Station (they have a lot) and register an Incident Report, what obviously will increase their rates.

Here where I live in Paraná countryside, if I get robbed, I won't register any B.O, since my city just have one delegacy and it is way far from my home, also we barely have any policeman, but it doesn't mean this town is a safe place. Now imagine for those who are poor and have no condition to pay a municipal bus to go to the downtown. They simply won't go there.

But when we talk about homicides, it is way more accurate, since nobody need to go the Police Delegacy to register homicide, the Public Minister do it, how they say in Law, Ação Penal Pública Incondicionada.

Actually most blacks and significantly black admixed people living in Brazil now descend from people who were imported during the first half of the 19th century when Brazil was already independent.

Most of the 3 million black slaves imported during the colonial period left no descendants in Brazil because they were overwhelmingly male and worked in very harsh conditions.

If I am not wrong, around 5 million of them. Just for comparison effect, USA received less than 10% of this number.

The african impact in our genetics is around ~23%, I think since around 90% of them were men, if they had descendants, then they would be mixed, but Brazilian YDNA comes mainly from West Europe, what means our african heritage is mainly from those 10% of african women who were brought to here.

Their life conditions was not that good in some regions, then was not uncommon for many of them die during the caravel transport, a lot couldn't even reach 30 years old, some laws like Sexagenarian Law was deeply criticized since slaves rarely could reach such age.

It was never as aggressive as Anglo-Saxon and Boer policies towards blacks (like openly discriminatory laws, segregation etc) but the Brazilian government implemented some measures aiming to reduce or even eliminate the black population, like letting them without medical assistance and sanitary conditions (that's how proto-favelas were formed) and incentivating European migration to substitute blacks or at least diminish their numbers drastically.

But it was a short period, after 1930 these policies were abandoned.

In Brazil people usually think the opposite. It's more common to see people saying the Burger King has best products than Mc Donald's. At least on those places which both have a huge market, like São Paulo. In Rio people have some affinity with a brazilian chain called Bob's, btw.

Subway also is huge in Brazil and you can find even at small cities in Northeastern Region. I like some subs they have.

Lasagna was even elected the most popular food by brazilians in 2015 I think, above Feijoada and Churrasco. Also São Paulo is the city with the biggest production of pizzas in the world - you can eat pizza almost anywhere. Still, Paulistanian Pizza is a type of pizza by itself, like NY Pizza. You can find even sweet pizzas as dessert.

Even now there is division inside Brazilian military, some supporting Bolsonaro's pro-American agenda and some opposing it.

I don't think the old football was so advanced like it is today, but at the same time we have to take into consideration the ball was heavier than it is now, the football boots were simple, so it requires more physical prepare. If you check the old footballers pictures, they always have thick thighs.

Talking about titles, Ronaldo won two world cups, one as titular. Pelé won other three world cups, one he didn't play since he was injured tho. In fact, Pelé never played in Europe, but he played against European clubs that time, when he played for Santos he won two Intercontinental Cups and other international friendly games.

Ronaldo played for Real Madrid, but never won a UEFA Champions League, what sounds weird when we talk about him. Ronaldo used to be top scorer player when it comes to World Cup (Klose overcame him in 2014).

NFL is a wimpish corruption of rugby. As a matter of fact, Argentina is the only serious rugby-playing nation in South America - so much so it has never lost to any other South American team, and many of its victories over Brazil have been like 100-0!

Many were founded together with other fans, Corinthians as example, they were spaniards, lebanese, brazilians and some italians. I think only Palmeiras and Cruzeiro were founded only by italians (both named that time as Palestra Itália) and the initial squads were only formed by italian footballers.

Even today the Italian influence in Palmeiras is huge, the currently president is Mauricio Galiotte and it is located in an historical Italian neighboorhood in São Paulo, the old place where used to belong to Matarazzo family. I've been there several times.

As someone who played for the Brazilian Cricket NT...

...Cricket would be a major sport here because many kids play it without knowing. But there's no incentives at all.

Rugby started to get somewhat popular, but still smaller than Motorsports or MMA, by far. Also those "radical sports" like Surf, Skate or BMX are far more popular, too.

Most talents go directly to Football. Plus, American Football has a Semi-Pro league here and many players who could move into Rugby prefer to stay there.

Actually Brazil created a Rugby League Federation and already won a South American Tournament using some guys from Union and American Football. Since RL has a smaller scenario, Brazil can really improve faster than at RU.
