To be fair, there are people who hate their own kind and try hard identifying with lighter (or darker) races. On the Tyra Banks Show, there was a Syrian Arab who identified as Italian because of the social stigma surrounding Middle Easterners after 9/11. I wouldn't be surprised if he has Sephardi Jewish or some sort of north African ancestry on his mother's side (perhaps his father is pure north Italian, hence his surname). Denial and self-hatred is a very common, human thing. I wouldn't be naïve about that.
