Not that Spanish are expert in the majority of our ex-colonies but definitely Filipinas is the most unknown Spanish ex-colony by far...

We're the most far away Spanish colony since you guys have to pass two Oceans before arriving to the Philippines, the Atlantic and Pacific Ocean.

https://www.officialgazette.gov.ph/images/uploads/manila-accapulco-galleon-trade-2.png

We were also the most war-torn and besieged.

http://factsanddetails.com/archives/005/201610/580085bcdc9d3.jpg

https://i.imgur.com/3XFtdde.png

We also received the least amount of Spanish migration (Most settlers were exclusively soldiers, traders or priests no farmers or workers though and of these, there were barely any Spaniards, most settlers came secondhand from Mexico or Peru).

Yet somehow, despite being the farthest, least settled by Spaniards and most war-torn colony in the Spanish Empire, we turned out to be the most loyal...

Most Spanish-American colonies which have more Spaniards living there, became independent by 1833, the Philippines was among the last Spanish colonies, only being sold to America by 1898.

<Maritime Traffic>

Judging from these maps, it seems that shipping that passes through the Sulu Archipelago to Manila rivals the traffic in the Strait of Malacca in density...

Investors are planning to take advantage of the humongous volume of shipping traffic passing through Tawi-Tawi.

They're taking advantage of it by building a city and trans-shipment port that would rival Singapore...

Interesting! That area has always been poor and infested with aboriginal Muslims and pirates but if this project passes through then there will be a lot of wealth created. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Possibly the oldest and some of the most beautiful Rice Terraces in the world are in the Philippine Cordilleras, they are known as Iffugao Rice Terraces or Banaue Rice Terraces. This UNESCO World Heritage Site includes 5 clusters of terraces, Batad being the most famous. Quote from UNESCO World Heritage Centre: "For 2,000 years, the high rice fields of the Ifugao have followed the contours of the mountains ..., they have helped to create a landscape of great beauty that expresses the harmony between humankind and the environment." Recorded end of March 2018 in 4K Ultra HD with Sony AX100. Music: David Modica - Near Distant Future - 1 - Soul Searching Licensed via ilicensemusic.com

The documentary shows a typical day in the life of a rice farmer and the laborious process of rice farming. You can see how well-connected the whole system is and the number of parties involved in farming rice. The way in which the farmer gently treats his animals illustrates the importance of every single life and how it is part of a greater system. From cultivation to sale the visuals give you a sense of the strenuous, manual and monotonous work in the rice paddies. Every action has an intention -- the self-grown rice is used to feed the fishes, which will be caught and cooked for dinner. Every step and actor in the process is part of an efficient, self-sustaining system. The simplicity of the video appeals to your senses and gives the viewer a real understanding of these conditions. You are transported into another world by listening to the original sounds. Commentary or music are not necessary to complete the documentary. This is not only a video, it's an experience!
