MINSK, 29 March (BelTA) – Belarus invites Latvia to cooperate in IT, biotechnology and healthcare, the Council of the Republic told BelTA after the meeting of Chairman of the International Affairs and National Security Commission of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Sergei Rakhmanov with MPs of the Latvian Saeima. The parties discussed the prospects for strengthening parliamentary, trade, economic, and humanitarian ties. “We maintain good relations. We are neighbors and we know each other very well. At the same time, we need to find new forms of cooperation, think about the further strategy of interaction,” Sergei Rakhmanov said. According to him, Belarus and Latvia have good opportunities for cooperation in IT, biotechnology, cell engineering. “We have good experience in the field of high technology, products that are competitive in world markets, and we are ready to cooperate in areas of mutual interest to our countries,” the chairman of the committee said. The parties also considered the possibility of implementing new projects in agriculture. It was noted that Belarus can offer modern technologies for equipping greenhouses with LED lamps. “We are interested in your experience in this field. We could become partners here. If necessary, we can develop cooperation on a multilateral basis, involving third countries,” Sergei Rakhmanov said. He also suggested the cultivation of blueberries as a possible area of partnership. The sides paid special attention to the possibilities of cooperation in the humanitarian sector, healthcare, including transplantology. The Latvian representatives expressed interest in tourism development. The negotiations also touched upon the issues related to the preparations for the upcoming IIHF World Championship, which Minsk and Riga will co-host in 2021.
