Kind of intermediate between French and south Italians on a purely 1D N-S axis, but not really in general because they shift west.

What obsession do you have with the Spaniards?

No, Spaniards shift west and north of Southern Italians if that's what you mean. But Southern Italians are a minority of Italians, most Italians live in Northern Italy and are roughly in the same degree of ''northerness'' of most Iberian groups (exception being Tyroleans, who plot closer to South Germans/Austrian Tyroleans) but less western shifted.

We could say that in a degree of ''westernerness'' the Southern European list goes like this: Sardinians > Spaniards/Portuguese > NW Italians > Central Italians > NE Italians > South Slavs > Albanians/Greeks/South Italians.

Measuring ''northerness'' this would be the list: Croats/Slovenians/Bosnians> NE Italians/Serbs/Spaniards/Portuguese > NW Italians > Bulgarians/Macedonians >Central Italians/Albanians > Greeks/Southern Italians > Sardinians.

Not only the Spaniards, but the three groups composed of Southern French, the Iberians and the North Italians are intermediary between Northern French and Southern Italy.

Apparently it was the Vikings who conquered and interbred with the Spaniards, and Ottoman, Bryzantine empire as well. Well, I suppose it wouls be more correct to say that after they settles in France, they went on expeditions together and conquered with the Spaniards together.

So they have a shared history, there was some interbreeding but I guess the common link is the Vikings, yes...
