how do you know she's azeri? to be clear, she could actually be Georgian or Russian - there are a huge amount of such immigrants especially in the north of iran(mazandaran)

Her surname is most common among Iranian Azeris who try to claim descent from Islamic figures (religious attachment but false).

.. and there is no significant russian immigration in Mazandaran. I have spent time in Amol city. Thick majority is mazandarani with pockets of azeris who speak mazandarani now.

The Iranian georgians have distinct surnames like Gorji or Gorjestani or the ones that end with "illi" so they are easily recognizable even though they do not look much different from other caspian belt persians because of generations of mixing.

She's neither of them. Her look is not uncommon for Iranians.
