If we share a segment on the X chromosome but different mtdna then how would we be related?

Mtdna is probably determined with only small part of x chromosome, rest of it changes.

Your X chromosome comes from your mother, but your mother will have two copies, one from her mother one from her father, and as a dude you only inherit one of those two randomly, and so on and so on. So it means you can share your X chromosome with someone but not share MTdna, as you might of gotten your X chromosome from your mothers father, or perhaps your match did.

Sounds complicated. Only Ydna matters then.

The X chromosome can be recombined, sense every female gets them from both the father and mother like any other chromosome, so that’s the part that hasn’t been remixed from you common ancestor by the men in your lines

I see. By the men on my mother's side?

MtDNA is about maternal lineage and it has nothing to do with our chromosomes in contrary to our ydna. It has to do with our mitochonrial DNA. The X chromosome is from one maternal ancestor or a combination of them. For example according to 23andme I score 7.5% Western Asian. My X chromosome is Western Asian and after a research I did I found out it comes from my maternal granfather because my mother took two X chromosomes from each parent. Probably I took my granfather's one.

Yes because they gave their daughter their X chromosome as well. Or if you meant wether or not that specifically is from you mothers fathers side, I don’t know, it could be either side of you mother’s family do to recombination

Simply said, you share a "common ancestor" through your maternal side with said person.

X chromosome and mitochondrial DNA are two complete different things. In fact you can share Xdna with your maternal grandfather. Mitochondria are situated outside cell nucleolus and has its own unique separated DNA, which is inherited maternally only.

Thanks dudes. It all makes sense now. It's confusing to me since this dude and I share a segment only on the x chromosome and not on the other chromosomes.
