The fast food industry thrives in most of the world. Chains like McDonald's and Burger King typically come out on top in the $651 billion fast food industry. In Vietnam, however, the brands have failed to take off. McDonald's and Burger King have more than 36,000 and 16,000 locations across the globe, respectively. But in Vietnam, McDonald's has 17 stores and Burger King has 13. In Vietnam, a country spoiled for choice when it comes to food, some U.S. fast food chains are struggling to compete with the local competition.

Can vouch for this. When I went to visit my family over there, you could take a couple minute walk to find your breakfast across the street really cheap

I have the same when I am in the Philippines. Who needs McDonalds ? The price is first world but the quality is shite. I have a trillion other options.

Prices are in PHP (Filipino peso) at your local Jollibee:

https://b.zmtcdn.com/data/menus/180/6300180/c19fa1b2fd6c3e378eb07b8690a33766.jpg

1 Euro is around PHP 58. Tell me again why I should go to McDonalds ? Ooh btw: and then I'm splurging. I can get a good bite in every possible street stall for less than 30. A carenderia would be mid-range and I eat there all the time when I'm there.

Fuck McDonalds ! Give me silog (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silog_(dish))(of any kind) or some tsampurado (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Champorado) or bulalo (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bulalo)(when it's a bit colder) and a good strong cup of kapeng barako (coffee - but stronger - more of the espresso variant) and I am ready to start the day.

(Blast ! I am craving for some Filipino food now..)

I remember buying street food for the first time in El Nido and got a very bad case of Delhi belly but haven't had any problems since.

Like what? It's hard to trust much of anything in third world countries, but at least there's some oversight with an international franchise.

If pricing isn't in line with local restaurants it won't large scale. I like breakfast fast food but not much else. McDonalds invented the egg mcmuffin breakfast sandwich, it isn't bad.

Good for them. Doesn't seem like it's a country that will be suffering from high obesity rates in the near future. Fast food consumption is destroying the aesthetics of a lot of people in developed AND developing countries. A lot of my friends in Brazil are becoming huge fatsos because of fast food consumption and other crappy eating choices they make. I could notice the difference between now and 6 years ago when I had first left the country. Depressing, really.

I am not going there either. The last time I went to anything which would be deemed fastfood here was to a sandwich store for a quick pick me up. And, oh yes, a herring sandwich from a cart is technically fast food as well.

The spices they use like turmeric have anti-bacterial properties. You could cook roadkill in turmeric and probably not get sick XD.

I'd be o.k with replacing all McDonald's, Starbucks, Burger King's and KFC in the Netherlands with Wendy's and Chick-Fil-A's at a 50 to 1 ratio: 50 places close, 1 opens. Since there are 225 McDonalds (most of which franchises), 60 to 70 Burger King's, 73 Starbucks and 58 KFC's, we can gain a lot (or rather: lose) a lot by closing them all down. That means that they will be able to get 9 outlets and rest of the market can be given to independent sandwich stores, bakeries and coffee lounges etc.

Why

Public health hazard and a rape of the local economy as all profits flow out of the country. Never mind that it's also cultural imperialism as none of these companies sell traditionally Dutch products or even use the Dutch language.

Yes. In Australia, after a night out at clubs, everyone goes to Mcdonald's or Kebab. In Macedonia, they get Burek. I experienced this in Skopje after a night out, the Burek shop on the corner of were i was staying was full of people. Culture shock. :P

Yes. I am very protectionist. Because our own economy is more important than the figures of some foreign tax-dodging multinational. I wouldn't be a patriot if I wouldn't place our own needs over the needs of the foreigner. Particularly if foreign corporations who fund all sorts of liberal initiatives to undercut local labour by importing more migrants and who adulterate their food stuffs.

We're a small country and one that is worth protecting. And every drop adds up. Besides the wellbeing of our taxpaying middenstand is more important to our economy than your tax-dodging multinationals. We don't really need them. McDonald's opened here in 1971 and has been undercutting Dutch labour and businesses (while dodging due taxes) since and it's time to end that era.

Subway isn't too bad but this isn't a Subway but a BackWerk (https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/BackWerk). Personally, I would like to see them broken up as well but Subway just needs to go as well.
