Is it common for, specifically, ex-yugoslav countries to have a strong nordic component? I know people that used to live there, Eslovenia specifically, and they look pretty nordic.

Compared to Mediterranean countries ex-Yugoslav or South Slavic countries are pretty Nordic because of higher North-Euro admixture from Slavs.
Especially Slovenians and Northern Croats are close genetically to Hungarians and Austrians - basically Central European.
