When I did my first genetic test I expected to be 50% southasian. Doug McDonald to me I am 25% and I was like "wow my family are part gypsies and I thought they are full". They always looked very southasian to me my mum and her family are deeply dark skinned but I guess genotype is not the same as phenotype in ethnic groups who are formed 2000 years ago like gypsies it can distribute various in phenotype I guess. Like some sicilians look straight up gulf arab but are only 10% modern middle eastern. Here is Coons classification on gypsies before genetic tests were available he classified some gypsies as very pure and very eastern and noticed their dark skin. https://archive.org/details/racesofeurope031695mbp/page/n449

My family. Everyone in my mums family is very dark skinned. I assumed if they were 60% European at least in some it would show and they would be light skinned because it is the same in mestizos and mixed brasilians, some are dark and some are lighter. But no one is light.

Mestizos that are over 75%spanish tend to pass for european, most balanced mestizos(50/50) look more amerindian than spanish

When I first ordered my kit, I assumed I would be just

1/4 Indian/Iranian
1/4 Mauritian Indian
1/4 Chinese
1/4 Spanish

A longer while after receiving my results, which were obviously not in line with what I was told, I asked my family very extensively about my ancestry and came to the conclusion of:

1/8 African (Malagasy, very weirdly high SSA by proportion)
1/8 Chinese (All from the South)
1/8 French (Probably also all from the South)
1/8 Mauritian Indian (Likely with roots in Bihar)
1/4 Spanish (All from the North)
1/4 Pakistani (I discovered that my family on this side are actually Pak Kashmiris who my mother lived with through her teens, and that the idea they were of Iranian origin was mostly a lie/rumour and they weren't ethnically Indian as I believed).

Um, yeah, but I didn't find it surprising really.. I mean, I had expected for my results to be predominately Levantine with significant west asian admixture due on the fact that my paternal grandmother was a Shi3a Lebanese Muslim and so on.

I was already very familiar with what my ethnic group scored like before taking a DNA test. So I wasn't surprised at all.

At the moment I can't take the ancestry report of Myheritage too seriously.

For example, a Croatian member gets 0% Balkan ancestry, meanwhile I get more than 95%? (I mean, come on...)

And after I converted my DNA file to 23andme V3 and reuploaded it to Myheritage my results are vastly different afterwards?

But GEDmatch calculators tell me a lot more and they seem to be quite accurate and very consistent regarding my ancestry.

Maybe the next Myheritage update will make the whole thing better and somewhat accurate.

Yes, I am content.

Fact that I didnt know is how we are autosomal close to Moldovan people. Now I have sympathy to that nation, about whom I didn't know so much.

23andme shit, knows only 100 years of my past. I know it anyway, just looking at my family photos :)
Familytree ancient shit, transition between steppe and farmer
Dna.land shit, gives Greek and Italian
Most Gedmatch shit, gives 40-50% German

Only to mention some shitty result :)

Familytree modern OK, gives Finnish + East Euro + British, which figures my genealogical history
Gedmatch K13 OK, gives Estonian + North Swedish, which is exactly where I am from in the context of older history.
