Then Russians took area Finland from Sweden (after Great Northern War), some could say .... that area ''should have gone as well'' .... as back then it was mainly populated by ''Finns'' (and Samis ... small numbers).

I wonder can she speak maenkieli ....

Malin Buska:

''Isoäitini on suomalainen, isoisällä on myös suomalaista taustaa. Kasvoin lähellä rajaa ja puhuimme meänkieltä. Perheeni asuu edelleen pohjoisessa. Kestää noin kolme minuuttia kävellä rajan yli Suomeen. Olen ruotsalainen ja tunnen itseni ruotsalaiseksi, mutta minulla on erittäin vahva yhteys Suomeen.''

Translation:

''My grandmother is Finnish, my grandfather also owns some Finnish backgrounds. I grew up closely Finland's border and we talked Mäeankieli. My family still lives in North. It takes about 3 min to walk Finland's side. I'm Swedish and feel myself Swedish, but I have strong connection to Finland.''

Now then ... familyname Buska sounds nothing like Scandinavian, Finnish (or even Samis). More like slavic (Russian) to me.

What comes to possible Sami blood ... she is 1,76cm tall woman! Yes, she might have that, but if so ... how much.

She could pass as a polish woman, her general look is quite familiar for me. From my point of view, She's more slavic than scandinavian.

Oh, I did't mean she would be Russian.

But now as you mentioned that, it is quite interesting that there are Buska named people in Sweden. Much more than in Finland, or in Norway (where for example Samis population is many times bigger). How they ended there? Via wars Sweden went through?

For 32 years I have never heard in Russia a name and surname, even remotely similar to “Buska”.
And her appearance is also completely different from the Russian, since Strandid prevails (with the addition of possibly Lappo-Ladogan).

You ment Буска?

Anyway Buska ... a family name starting with ''soft'' B and not ''hard'' P hardly has Finnic origin.

By the way, in Russian "B" in Buska (Буска) sounds "hard". If only "B" sounded soft, the word should be written as Büska (Бюска). Anyway, both this words sounds very non-Russian:).
I think this surname is probably archaic Scando, may be pre-Germanic one.

I first saw Malin Buska a few years ago in the film The Girl King (2015) in which she played Queen Christina of Sweden of the House of Vasa. I thought that Malin was an unusual choice, because she doesn't look particularly Swedish enough to play such a famous Queen and I always associate Queen Christina with the movie version starring Greta Garbo (1933).

Then, time passed and I forgot about her. Last month, I saw her play a Finnish witch in the BBC adaptation of A Discovery of Witches. And I told myself 'Hey, it's that actress from The Girl King!'. I was intrigued by her looks and thought of opening a classification thread for her.

I know that Malin is a very popular first name in Sweden, but Buska didn't sound Swedish to me and she looked like she could have some Sami admixture despite her height.

PS: Buska said some incantations in Finnish in A Discovery of Witches, but I have no idea if her pronunciation is good or if she sounds like a native Finn. 99% of the time, she spoke English in it.

Like I said I think she's some kind of North-East Upper Paleolithic type. North-East Upper Paleolithic can be very tall.

For instance this is an example of North-East Upper Paleolithic from Coon. She's 1,75 cm, it's more than some Nordic men from Coon. I posted many girls with this phenotype and they all are very tall.

She looks woggish and dead-eyed because she has exposed upper eyelids and the skin of her eyelids is dark. That's hardly a Finnish or Saami look.
