Northern Transylvania (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northern_Transylvania) was a region of Transylvania that Romania was forced, by Germany and Italy, to cede to Hungary in 1940.

Hungary held Northern Transylvania only from 1940 to 1944. A series of acts of discrimination were carried out by the horthyist (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horthy%27s_Hungary) authorities and some ethnic Hungarians against the Romanians which culminated with extremely violent massacres (http://ro.wikipedia.org/wiki/Masacre_antirom%C3%A2ne%C8%99ti_%C3%AEn_Transilvan ia_de_Nord,_1940-1944) in:

Given Romania's history i'm glad its a member of nato now, they definately put up with a shitty 20th century ww2,communism, psychotic dictator , they really got the total tyranny package.
