Interesting surname.
IMHO it was originated from "ZA WODA" = behind the water, i.e person who lived at opposite bank of the stream.
There are also simillar Czech lastnames like ZÁVODNÝ (with the same meaning) or ZÁPOTOCKÝ - person living behind the creek.
But in modern Czech languge the term ZÁVODNÍK means RACER .
Does her lastname means RACER also in Serbian and Polish languages?

In Serbian it means seducer. :)
"za voda" is understandable but also "vodnik" could be related with verb "voditi" which means to lead.

Seducer is SVŮDNÍK in Czech.
Vodník (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vodyanoy#Vodn%C3%ADk)is a creature of Czech mythology - he has green skin, lives at lakes at fishponds, where he drowned people to take their souls what he kep in the cups :)

Interesting. Nevertheless a RACER is better name for sportsmen, than PARTICIPANT or SEDUCER :)

'Zawodnik' in Polish means player or contestant
it means seducer :laugh2:
In Polish it means a contestant too - it's the main meaning. It's funny that the same word means something completely different in Serbian. But we have our verb ''zwodzić '' which means "to deceive'' - can be also in a seducive way.
