gedmatch population approximations

Do they interpret your DNA and compare to individual population clusters, or do they just compare the overall percentage scores that you get to the other overall percentage scores of the population clusters? This may be worded badly, lol. I've wondered this for a while because I tend to get some pretty interesting populations on the 2-4 approximations, but I'm not sure if it's moderately legible, or just smoke with no fire.

Depends on the calculator. Some create different components & run similarity to those components like K3, K12, K13, K15 etc... others create population profiles & get closest match.
