In an interview with BBC News, the 14th Dalai Lama expressed controversial views on a female successor, while speaking on topics that range from President Trump to Brexit.

The Tibetan religious leader told BBC’s South Asian correspondent Rajini Vaidyanathan that “if female Dalai Lama comes, then she should be more attractive,” otherwise, “people, I think prefer, not see her, that face.”

Vaidyanathan questioned the basis of his comments and asked, “It’s about who we are inside, isn’t it?” The Dalai Lama replied, “Yes, I think both.”

These statements are a reiteration of his past comments back in a 2015 interview with BBC journalist Clive Myrie, stating that a prerequisite for a female Dalai Lama would be physical appeal, or else she would be of “not much use.”

The spiritual guru has also doubled down on the US president, underlining Trump’s “lack of moral principle.” He stood firmly against Trump’s “America First” mantra, saying this isolationist mindset “is wrong.”

“America, they should take the global responsibility,” he said.

The Dalai Lama also has his own views on Brexit and the role of refugees.

“They themselves, I think better to their own land,” said the leader. “Keep Europe for Europeans.”

The Dalai Lama is an immigrant himself who fled to Dharamsala, India, in 1959 after the Chinese invasion of Tibet.

The Dalai Lama’s comments have been receiving mixed reviews.

American feminist writer Jessica Valenti tweeted about canceling His Holiness.

His words were taken out of context I'm sure. But, tbh, a female leader being attractive would be an asset because libido is literally what drives the ENTIRE world. There is not a telephone pole or fiber-optic cable in this world that doesn't go up because some working man didn't think doing so could get him laid in one way or another. Like Dave Chapelle said, 'If a man could get laid living in a cardboard box, civilization would collapse.' In Hinduism (and tantric Buddhism), shakti means power, and is both a name of the Goddess, and denotes power itself. The word is grammatically feminine for a reason. There is a reason why nations and lofty abstract concepts are personified as females. Are men generally willing to die for a man, or an old skag that doesn't embody femininity? I think NOT!

People are more likely to rally around an attractive woman. As a matter of fact, the Tibetans (and others for that matter) electing an attractive woman as their spiritual and temporal leader could do wonders.

That's not true, many guys, like Isaac Newton, for instance, were very reclusive by choice, and didn't care about social life for most part of their lives.
And I think actually the most productive men (in terms of human history and contribuitions for the social order) are usually those who handle their sexual urges and will do other stuff. So that's just a false common saying, because guys interested in getting girls usually do stuff to bring them power/money/materials, that's the opposite to give yourself to a cause (scientific in this example).

If I were him, I would not comment too much on politicians and getting involved in too many circles of varied interests. He looks like a buffoon of the most elaborate kind.

well I agree with him about brexit on the nose, but shouldn't that same mindset be in place for an america first policy?

If he were in power, wouldn't he be like some sort of absolute monarch?

I do not doubt Tibet would be more beautiful if independent though, maybe sexist quite a bit. Maybe the man is already alzheimeric, true buddhist avoids unnecessary publicity like plague, his recent comments are too much of vulgarity for a monk like him, very sad.

Historically, Dalai Lamas were both spiritual and political leaders and had a MILITARY role as war chiefs. As a matter of fact, the Tibetans secured many military victories with Dalai Lamas over Chinese armies. It's a shame that in the modern age, Tibet has fallen under the irrevocable iron heel of China. We can only hope the Chinese will come to their senses and preserve, or at least, not disturb Tibetan Buddhist institutions.

They're probably not taken out of context.
Western White men idolise Buddhists as these holy men but in Asia plenty of Buddhists are sinful as fuck. They are just not as guilty about it than Christians as they dont even consider some things as sins.

If you study Buddhism in Asia you quickly discover that Buddhist denominations are no different to the Church in Europe. They seek to acquire power and spiritual domination over the country and get very corrupt.
