Wimbledon, England —
High-flying Serbian star Novak Djokovic secured a berth in his first career Wimbledon final on Friday and is now also the new No. 1 player in the world.

The second-seeded Djokovic defeated 12th-seeded Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 7-6 (7-4), 6-2, 6-7 (9-11), 6-3 in the first men's semifinal on Centre Court at the All England Club. It marked a rematch of the 2008 Australian Open finale, which was also won by the super Serb.

Djokovic now awaits the Rafael Nadal-Andy Murray winner.

Three of the top-four players in the world are part of the Day-11 schedule -- the top-ranked Nadal, No. 2 Djokovic and No. 4 Murray.

Win or lose here in Sunday's final, Djokovic will be the new No. 1 star for the first time in his career, supplanting the reigning Wimbledon, French Open and U.S. Open champion Nadal

"I've been working all my life for this," Djokovic said. "I've been dreaming about playing the finals of Wimbledon since I started playing tennis when I was 4. To be able to be there on Sunday will probably be the best feeling."

"It's hard to express your emotions in a very short time but hopefully some more celebrations are about to come," Djokovic added.

A shame that he isn't playing Murray, but he will get a harder game against Nadal.

Don't be sorry. The way you were going on I thought he'd got to the final. It seems he hasn't. Seems he isn't that good then.

He does not need to prove anything! He is 30 years and has the biggest number of Grand Slams. It was 285 weeks as world No. 1. Has won everything he could.

He is in the finals, he defeated Tsonga in the semi-finals and so now he's moving up to finals.

Of course he does. You can't say he is "the best" and not have him contest a major final.

In what world do you live? Federer has 16 Grand Slams,do you think he will win all the titles that play? Obviously not. And he's 30 years. His point of view it makes no sense.

When you talk about federer, the discussion must have names such as Borg, Sampras, Laver. They are legends

And this is still No. 1 topic in Serbia. People can't stop talking about it. I logged in today on FB and all statuses are about it.
Typically for Serbian mentality, people see it like their own success and feel very proud.

Why wouldn't we? Other countries have had their time in limelight, it's our turn now.

Congratulations Novak! You deserved the title. Without a doubt, has a more aggressive tennis and more like the style of Wimbledon than his opponent in the final.

The Serbian, who is as of Monday officially the best-ranked tennis player in the world, defeated Spain's Rafael Nadal and made history as the first Serb to win the tournament and top the ATP rankings.

"I don't know how to thank Novak enough for everything he has done for Serbia and our people," commented Tadić in a statement for B92 after the match.

"It cannot be described what his success means to our country. This is an example of how hard work and discipline are important in achieving one's goals," said he.

Tadić also said it was a pleasure to watch file video footage of Đoković as a young boy "announcing" that his goal was to become the world number one, and then watch him achieve this.

"This is the greatest success of our sport ever. Watching the final, as a Serbian citizen, I almost died," Tadić confided in our reporter.

The freshly crowned Wimbledon champion traveled to his hometown a day after he made history as the first Serb man to win the Grand Slam tournament, and on the day he officially became the world's best tennis player, according to the ATP rankings.

Addressing the sea of people who celebrated with music from pop bands and fireworks, Đoković thanked them for turning out, and dedicated the trophy which he brought with him on stage to his fans, and to Serbia.

"This is incredible," he addressed the crowd which welcomed him on stage by waving Sebian flags, lighting flares and interrupting the speech by chanting his name.

"Thank you all for coming here tonight to welcome me. I am indebted to you forever. I will never forget this, and I dedicate the Wimbledon trophy to you and to Serbia."

The Serbian Army Guards Orchestra was in front of the Serbian parliament to perform the national anthem.

Đoković, who's family is from Kosovo, received a gift from the Serb children in the province: a 50-meter-long Serbian national flag.

He introduced members of his team and family, who he said were with him in the past 20 years as he worked to achieve his dream.

Before he addressed his fans, Đoković met with Parliament Speaker Slavica Đukić-Dejanović, who organized a reception in his honor.

"Novak, thank you, you have made us extremely happy. We are proud of you and wish you many more titles and a long time as the world's best," she said.
