I recently was lead to this forum through another forum. Having previously browsed the site I am confident that there's much to be learned and discussed. I've never been one for introductions, but I feel it's only polite to make some attempt at one. So here it is, no matter how lousy. :tongue

Turlogh the Black was a fearsome Celtic warrior, at least according to the novel The Grey God Passes by Robert E. Howard -- and the graphic novel based on the same story by Finnish artist Petri Hiltunen.

Welcome on board on my humble behalf.

Aye, that he was. I was just telling Galloglaich how happy I was to see another Howard reader on the board. It appears there are now three of us. A merry way to begin my membership, indeed. Are there any others, I wonder?

A common theme in Howard's writing is the comparison between barbarism and civilisation, which actually might be an interesting discussion if it hasn't already been touched.

Thanks again to all!

I'm only Irish by extraction but I've been a long time lover of the people and the myths.

Welcome to the forum!

Aye, and cead mile of them! :P

What's the 'Brigantium' bit? Some family from that bottom corner of Leinster? Ui Bairrche?

Hello from a British Brigante, anyway (and given that Brigid's shrine was in Cilldara, there may well be some Iernian Brigand in me too)!

Not at all. I'd been a lurker on Stirpes for a month or two when I encountered a post made by one of the members about The Apricity. Stirpes never exactly suited my taste, though I do think it's an interesting forum.

A reference to my Milesian heritage, my friend. Though it's the version of Irish history I have taken a liking to, I will certainly look into getting a hold of that book you kindly recommended in the other discussion.

Damn Milesians... Gotta start me a Fir Bolg Revolutionary Front! ;)

Oh, it's more the chronology of the Lebor Gabala, the basic order of events, that's 'at fault' than the content as such. It tries to lend the (then dominant) Gaels an antiquity and primacy in Irish settlement history that doesn't reflect the actual complexity of it.

You can still have a liking for it, mind, just as I will still amuse myself by reading Geoffrey of Monmouth, despite knowing it's all a load of ****. :D
