Which modern city do you consider to be most beautiful? I'm leaning towards Tokyo since it is one of the most impressive modern metropolises next to Seoul. I can't think of anything similar in Europe except maybe Frankfurt but it's not as sprawling like Tokyo or Seoul.

If beatiful means having skyscrapers, then Hong Kongs wins

I'd say most Europeans don't have in mind a city crammed with skyscrapers when they think of beautiful.
If so, I'd go for Dubai. It'll be a funny city in some twenty years, when it becomes a ghost city full of wonderful buildings that get lost among the clouds.

Can a modern city be beautiful? Maybe 20 or 30 years ago, then not so modern.

Tokyo wasn't built after WW2, so I guess he just means a city from this time, and not from the past (a city which doesn't exist anymore).

If modern is about cities built after WW2, then my vote goes clearly to the capital of Brazil.

I think modern, planned cities are quite sterile looking. I'd opt for Canberra though.

London sure is a beautiful city (in parts at least), but surely a city that's existed for 2,000 years cannot be called modern?
Tokyo wasn't built after WW2 ...
Well, essentially it was -- Allied bombing during WW2 did more damage to Tokyo than Nagasaki and Hiroshima combined. (Also it was devastated in 1923 by an earthquake.)
I've never been to Japan, but based on what I've read and seen on the internet, Tokyo (or the 23 cities collectively known as Tokyo) is not a very beautiful city. However it is the world's greatest city. It is certainly where I would guide my fleet, if I were an alien commander under instructions from the Mother-hive to contact the most advanced civilization on Earth.

Tokyo gives off that vibe of a space-age city which I think is very cool.

San Francisco has a very well developed downtown with all its worldy famous landmarks , it also have the maybe best scenery on the planet , the only worse areas are those residential on the west side , pretty cheap and boring.

A swimming pool, ferris wheel, dodgems and a school. No heavy traffic. What more could you want? Cancer risk may be a little high though.
